Indeed - the Operation Chaos files were destroyed because they were evidence of the illegal activities of the Rockefeller Commission to spy on and oppress citizens. This still happens, in many nations, though now they know they're not fooling anyone by referring to these projects as targeting only domestic dissidents and "dangerous subversives", nor is this appropriate in a democracy (where 'representation' is NOT oppression). I know people who were proud to be on the latter lists, even if somewhat nervous about it.
