Mozilla is dominated by Google money. Google, an ad pimp, can't have real alternatives exist and the various (not just those mentioned in the aforementioned article from '07) monetary means of controlling Firefox development has led to a number of hostile acts by Mozilla. All Firefox is is controlled opposition to chromium based browsers. Manifest v3 will further inhibit ad blocking in all but Firefox, more or less. Microsoft Edge will likely not do much to improve their ad blocking capabilities as Microsoft is also a major ad-pimp and Brave's ad blocking capabilities will likely never be on-par with uBlock Origin. The cost of maintaining manifest v2 capabilities and therefore full ad-block capabilities will be too great and eventually even Mozilla will force manifest v3 into it's products. Google has the money and Mozilla will dance to their tune or lose their jobs.

-Read the comments section on this one as well and then compare the complaints of Google sites not working properly, at times, to the Firefox subreddit on Reddit. People frequently complain of Google sites not working well, if at all for Google Earth, on Reddit and elsewhere. Likely Google only breaks things some of the time to prevent widespread reports of problems and recognition of what they and Mozilla really do together. Fully capable add-ons for web browsers threaten Google's profit, but thanks to Mozillas sabotage and subsequent decline in Firefox usage due to bugs, slowness, 'poor' decisions by Mozilla and not least of all Chrome's presence by default on Android devices, Firefox has been captured and strangled. Anti-trust action against Google, similar to Microsoft back in the day, is unlikely due to legal bribery of the US government AKA 'lobbying' and other smooth moves by a massive company that intends to learn from Microsofts mistakes.

This page lists many privacy violating features of Firefox. While maybe not all are in the release version I can't determine. All kinds of big names are involved either directly or otherwise with the technologies listed there.
Fennec is a more private version and I believe Mull is an even more secure version based off the Tor browser version of Firefox. (both in F-Droid repo)
