It was kinda weird that Gab didn't start banning people until they raised their million dollars eh?

What happened?

Thank you... I told a terrible half story. https://mic.com/articles/192595/gab-just-booted-white-supremacist-patrick-little-for-anti-semitic-threats

Also of interest: https://gab.ai/ https://jel.jewish-languages.org/words/176

(I am not comparing SaidIt to Gab and I'm speaking as a user, they are very different platforms with different goals).

Hmm... Interesting.

These are some clever characters. Could be a coincidence.

Didn't help that the guy who was banned was so critically broad.

Definitely inconsistent with the free speech myth at Gab. Could be controlled opposition.

I think it's a good thing, precisely because he "was so critically broad" when he should have been more specific about which Jews are culpable. This sets an example for folks to learn from. Or maybe the whole exercise is for naught and it all remains moot.

Which bank did they get? And what did they have to give to get it?

I strongly disagree. It is definitely a bad thing. It appears that free speech is not a principled value for Gab.

It's easy to support free speech as an idea for things that one agrees with.

Free speech is a value when an individual supports if for ideas and statements that one despises.

Jason. I'm quite confident that free speech is one of your core values. Free speech is under siege. Many people read and agree with your comments. We should avoid shooting from the hip when free speech is concerned.

Don't your agree? ;-)

I actually typed, "I think it's a good thing, maybe," before backing up.

Threats are not okay. And there's no secret that Jews threaten palestinians all the time, etc. Not to mention state violence galore. It's a slippery slope to advocate for violence. Violence is funny. But not ha ha funny.

Censorship is a hellova slippery slope too. And without free speech we got nothing.

So I guess I recant.

In typing I made a typo. It made me think of a good mascot for SaidIt:

A fresh peach for free speech!

Ping the admins; we've got branding!

I agree with your thoughts on Little, but the interesting thing here is that there was no threat.

Here's gabs official ban reason:

This discovery triggered an investigation which revealed a threat to commit criminal vandalism. True threats are also not protected by the First Amendment and violate our Community Guidelines.

Accordingly Gab has permanently suspended the account.

Whatever was said about vandalism wasn't cited. A commenter said he said he'd tear down a statue if some campaign goal was met.

So spin spun stunned I pun in dizzy fun.

Of course. I should never take off my skeptic hat. From now on the aluminum fedora gets polished where it will always remain - firmly on my head. I think she'll like it even less now, but I polish my hat with my cat.

I looked into this some more and I guess it's possible that threatening to tear down a statue is a legit threat. Still seems like a huge judgement call for Gab to make.
