Well, a lot of the mind control that the elites use depend on manipulating people's emotions, so I thought you guys would find stoicism useful.

Stoicism is all about getting rid of the harmful passions with constant training. What the stoics called passions isn't related to what we call emotions by itself but specifically the destructive impulses of our nature. It also teaches us to constanly think about solutions to everyday problems by training attention.

It is my favorite philosophy and trust me I've tried a lot. The "Apathy" that the stoics seek with their training is very similar to the Nirvana of Buddhism. In fact, both philosophies share a lot of themes.

Great stuff! For myself, I've found that I simply cannot rid myself of any desire, or emotion; they keep coming, but I can learn to embrace, mediate, and control them with some degree.

I think stoicism is realizing a few principles with varying levels personal application; while also digging deep within to comprehend why we do what we do.

Why do you feel it is necessary to try and reduce Stoicism to a single sentence, when OP has posted a thorough explanation already?

Is this an artefact of the twitter/reddit age, where the uninformed feel emboldened to shout out their ignorance on any and every subject? Unphased by words of the more erudite, encouraged by the bleating support of their fellow unlearned?

That was a test. Your response demonstrates your comprehension.

LMAO, wasn't trying to reduce anything, and it is an open thread; meaning the more comments the more views, the more open of a discussion.

I don't twitter, and I don't reddit. I could be ignorant; you seem to have me 'pegged', so 'okay'.

we are being bombarded with media programming us to embrace base emotional respsonses, and reject considered thought and calm.

Finding nemo, finding dory, captain marvel, to pull three off the top of my head. "embrace your animal side". demonise the evolved.

I agree with the Apathy/Nirvana analogy, although They are not the same, once You've quested for Nirvana and decided to return to the human world, Apathy becomes a great tool.
