Trump seems to be banning it based on the fact it is allegedly sending user data to the Chinese government, which obviously has its own concerns, but I think this decision would be good anyway just on the basis of how degenerate this app is and how much debauchery it promotes. Probably the best thing he has done since getting elected, although still not enough for me to not want him to lose.

Tiktok is Chinese and even more than that, I think it allowed some racist and antisemitic videos.

Don't worry, Faceberg is coming up with an American version called Reel within in the next few months

    Probably a good move, we have seen peak globalization and now history is moving slowly in the opposite direction. Instead of global tech giants we are going to start to see regional ones. In the US there is google and facebook, in Russia Yandex and VK, in China Tik Tok and wechat. Western countries are gaining interest in self sufficiency for some medical supplies.

    Best theory I heard was it's an election losing tactic, i.e. he'll lose more votes than gain by this action. The idea that he's doing anything to help America at this point is beyond absurd.

    So Trump will do nothing about Twitter and the like censoring and spying because they are "American companies" and he will use TikTok as a scapegoat.
