Hot take: activist moderators are better than laissez-faire ones, and absolutely essential for dissident success.

Note that I'm not talking about heavy-handed jannies who ban anyone they don't like or stir up drama.

However, I am talking about moderators who take an active stance in administering their communities. I hate to say it, but look at N8theGr8, and what he's been able to accomplish in the last few years (and last few days). It would be a lie to say that he doesn't wield considerable power and hasn't steered online discourse in a major way.

One of my main gripes with dissident sites is that admins work tirelessly to provide the platform, and then just sit down and think that's the end, that once they've made a site (or a subreddit) there's no more work to be done than letting people talk about whatever.

I think everyone here supports freedom. However, I doubt most are AnCaps. We believe in the necessity of leadership. This dovetails with the virtue of an activist moderator, who grows his community, archives valuable information, builds on past discussions, and steers it towards a goal.

Am I not-so-subtly describing a course of action for this saidsaidit? Well... it couldn't hurt. But I think this sub is already one of the best-moderated and has one of the highest levels of discourse online.

For the most part, I'm disappointed with other platforms, like https://communities.win which has a huge userbase and yet the mods do nothing with it. Instead of a vital activist platform that can launch projects and build an alternate online ecosystem for dissidents, it's used to post mid-quality memes and fear porn.

What are your thoughts on this?

The mods and I have tried to keep up the tone and focus of the founder of the sub Mortalsisyphus. I've also learned a lot from /u/waltzsroomate who stepped up and ran the sub after MS was banned for no reason whatsoever on reddit. We survived more then a year longer on Reddit with waltzsroomates guidance. Those were tough times. Sophisticated trolls, organized raiders, and sneaky demoralization/violence shills were waging constant attacks. Not to mention a reddit admin that was constantly figuring out ways to dry up traffic and get us to give up or get tripped up in some stupid reddit rule or policy.

Huge shoutout to /u/markimus /u/cisheteroscum and /u/pcpmasterrace . They are true OG's and even though they don't comment as much as I do they do a LOT of mod work. Please give them props if you appreciate this sub because it wouldn't be possible without them.

He was the active mod when I first stumbled on the sub in 2016/17. He was respectful to me as I fumbled through trying to understand the alt right and dissident thought in general. I would not be 'out of the matrix' so to speak without him and the sub he created. Wherever you are MS thanks.

That's some history. This sub has come a long way.

The right should not be afraid to have spaces meant for likeminded people, instead of having everything free-for-all, leftists and nonwhites have their communities on lock but constantly attempt to harass/troll/subvert right wing spaces that are actually free for all, I would guess /pol/ is an extreme example of this. Ban the retards and ignore their indignant cries about hypocrisy or fragility or whatever.

Socks for example constantly engages in bad faith behavior under the guise of a "normal person" observer.

Right-on.

One of the most redpilling experiences for me was browsing /r/Libertarian on reddit. In keeping with their principles, they allowed anyone to comment and post, even people who hated libertarianism.

In short order the sub was completely overrun with communists who would never be so accepting on their own subs.

On the other hand you had 8ch which wasn't overrun by communists, but allowed blatant fedposters and ended up getting shut down over it.

These experiences and others are why I believe absolute free speech isn't enough on its own, you need quality and direction, and for that you need moderation.

On reddit there is this massive campaign to get covid skeptical subreddits like no new normal shut down with tons of subreddits "standing" with a post calling for it made by the reddit mod n8thegr8.

So-called anti-vaxxers are very soon going to join the TERFs, MGTOW, tankies, and the whole 'Far-Right' in being deplatformed.

The growing deplatforming of other groups is a good thing for us. It means an increasing userbase for Alt-Tech, with the mainstream tech platforms exceedingly becoming 'progressive' echo chambers. This site is a microcosm of these positive changes—the largest communities here are literally all emigrant Reddit communities. Indeed, I wish Reddit would ban every community so that a multitude of Reddit alternatives would appear.

I'm not sure whether I'd consider a bunch of low-IQ schizo boomers rambling about how Bill Gates is an evil white supremacist eugenicist who's trying to depopulate Africa with vaccines a valuable addition to the userbase of our alt-tech platforms.

A lot of these people are young and fairly aware. That kind of person is in the minority.

I agree that objectivity is a false god. There can be no room for apologism or playing nice with those who use every measure to deplatform us.

Those inside the mythos, need no explanations. Those outside the mythos, no explanation is possible.
