I am reading the daily stormer a lot lately. I don't agree with a lot of things but at least I get the American news in a funny way. I do agree agree about the anal pope critique however. The pope is a shame and I understand that protestants interested in Catholicism may be turned away by that individual.

However. I just remembered that last year the Vatican cockblocked an Italian law from passing. The law was about gay stuff and basically the Vatican warned that if the law was to pass it would have violated the concordate. I don't know what the pope would have done if the parliament decided to pass the law anyway, it's not like they can start a war with 150 Swiss guards from the middle of Rome. But at the end the law was discarded so we will never know.

That's to say, despite the anal pope, it seems to me Catholic church as an institution still fights for traditional values, to the point of low-key threatening a Swiss invasion of Rome if some gender laws were to be passed. That's at least something I guess.
