I just saw this article in HuffPo and couldn't help but be amused. I've noticed that any article using the term is guaranteed to have a comments section full of people either defending the terms or adamantly opposing it. I just saw the term referred to as "linguistic imperialism"

To my memory, the term had gained a strong foothold from around 2010 until about 2020. I heard a lot of "racial justice" types use the term. Now a lot of woke leftists and Hispanics are trying to insist that it was always seen as a joke and was only embraced by phony liberals, but rejected by true leftists. I'm not so sure I agree with that account. It seems to me that most leftist/liberals were eager to embrace the term to promote feminist standards. Once they realized the term wasn't catching on among most Hispanics, they were forced to backtrack because it has now come into conflict with leftists stated desire to allow total self-determination by POC. So they backtracked, and pretended the term was always largely a joke to serious leftists.

It's also interesting to see the conflict play out between leftist and POC subgroups. When it comes to "Latinx", there's:

• Hispanics who reject it.
• Woke Hispanics who embrace it
• Woke whites who now reject it.
• Woke whites who still embrace it.

Who will win out?
