Why do people post photos of their face?

Aside from all the usual stuff like wanting attention, self-promotion, validation and all that, is there some specific illness or reason why some people post photos of their own face, again and again?

I first noticed this with a guy I used to know.. Posted a close-up photo of his face. OK... Next day, a photo of his face, while walking down the street, which you could hardly see as it was mostly just a pic of his face.

Then another close up of his face. And another, and another... literally for a period of some weeks, before I blocked his boring ass, this guy posted nothing except photos of his face, usually with a single paragraph about some vague bullshit, the usual "Live, love, laugh" type crap.

I've since noticed 2 other people, one male and one female, do the same, so what the fuck is this?

I presume some kind of mental illness, but that's just a description, not an answer really.

Note that none of the 2 people I observe doing this are overly good-looking, indeed that first guy was damn ugly.

Have any of you seen the same? Ever called anyone out on it? Ever noticed what triggered it, or got it to stop?

Does it have a name, is this some fad or something?

Yeah, narcissism, but again that's just a word or description; I'm curious about the root or cause of this? None of these people, I think, consider themselves super good-looking. They don't live overly interesting lives, so what's with this "Here's my face. Again." shit?

Maybe they get paid by "generous strangers" for each close-up. These "generous strangers" are of course alphabet agencies who hope to get the general public to "adopt the trend" to feed these faces into facial recognition so that no matter what expression is on your face, with enough detail of your face at rest, AI can infer what it will look like under ANY circumstances.

Mmm. I like the way you think but this is more 'mental illness' level. I'm just curious about it.

They know they're not good-looking (the female might think she is?) There's little variation in the pics, so they're not really expressing anything The pics are too close-up to show any real background, so they're not showing anything

It does seem to be a creeping trend though... I've just remembered a guy I have been fishing with and see often. Sent me a close-up of his face? I know what the fucker looks like, so why?

So yeah, that's 4 people now... eew?

To clarify, I don't meant the usual 'Here's what I had for breakfast' or 'Here's me enjoying X' or whatever, I mean a close-up photograph of their face.

Just their face. Kind of like a dick pic (which I also don't understand) but facial?

Yeah, bonus question, why do some guys send dick pics? The fuck is that?

Well telling a joke is fine; there's a reason and entertainment.

And surely more fun than sending a pick of your dick, unless you have a funny dick I guess...
