The key to this problem is that professors, Harvard or otherwise, do not make very much money and some can be manipulated with the expectation of more income.

Don't get me wrong. It is a good job in that there is lots of time off from teaching to pursue other paths to wealth such as writing but their regular income is surprisingly low—well below an average MD for example. Money changes everything.
