There seems to be at least 5 completely different entities selling this stuff. I assume it's just junk sellers doing what they do and now they are getting free advertisement.

It doesn't appear that any of them claimed what the article is saying though. All the ones I saw were very clear and had clear FAQ pages. You don't have to lie about stuff, people frequently sucker themselves with just an open doorway.

It reminds me of the endless commemorative only US quarter sets for sale.

John Amann told NBC News he bought $2,200 worth of Trump Bucks and other items over the past year only to discover they were worthless when he tried to cash them in at his local bank.

Imagine calling NBC News to tell them you're retarded. Although at 77 and a Houston dweller, he's honestly more likely to be suffering from some kind of cognitive failure, as evidenced by his belief in a grifter, and even voting in the first place.
