Mulnupiravir was designed to create more virus mutations. Because they thought it might work against the virus.
Looks like a setup for scientific fraud: It may seem to work by testing only for the original virus.

it mutating to be weaker is good but let it do that on it's own not mutate to be able to survive against some weak drug. Only allow the drug if it is safe and totally eradicates the virus. There's these things called tests and studies to see if it works.
