When you just print a bunch of money and mail it to people, for months on end, they buy things with it.

Normally they'd buy things with money they were paid at a job, perhaps making consumer goods or supporting those that do. But the "stimulus" money being spent now doesn't represent or relate to any such economic activity. It was invented out of thin air.

So, there is an inherent imbalance in the economy between production and consumption. Put simply, a bunch of people got stuff they didn't deserve, and that stuff is no longer available to the rest of us.

Here in Czechia inflation is above 10 % already and predicted to rise to 15 % this year... I don't see any shortages though besides stuff that is manufactured in Ukraine for example (e.g. certain steel products which I have my eye on right now).

You haven't had crazy random things out of stock? It started with toilet paper, paper towels, and rubbing alcohol here. At various times it's been difficult to get ramen noodles, pickled jalapenos, and high-octane gasoline.

Automobile dealerships have been sold out (or nearly sold out / sold out of specific models) for quite a while.

If it's just specific things sounds like to me artificial sacristy to eliminate competition.

Not really.. though I heard some news like that from Western countries, not sure if it was the US or some European countries.

I remember pasta, rice etc. being out of stock when the covid pandemic began 2 years ago, but nothing since then.

Prices of natural gas and recently gasoline have gone up significantly though.

pickled jalapenos,

You can pickle jalapenos and other peppers in about 10 minutes, see "quick pickling" for various recipes.

Yeah, I've been learning to grow stuff and I'm hoping to pickle some turnips and peppers.

Your completely correct on this.

I want to share a simplified example of how inflation works that I heard to help people contextualize the situation.

Image you have only 1 fish and $10 in the economy. If you want to buy half of the fish it would be $5. Now, along comes the government and prints $40 more and hands out that cash. We now have 1 fish and $50. Now if you want to buy half the fish it would be $25.

This is the basics of what government has done. Since the time of Genghis Khan this has been tried with the exact same results. No civilization, empire or kingdom has ever printed there way out of trouble since the invention of currency.

But mine is only 900$ Mine will sell faster then yours! (Cue the crowd of idiot gamers who don't know shit about the economy rushes over and slams the buy button as soon as I type). :)

I don't really see any shortages. The selection isn't always as good, but everything I want I can get.

So far I hardly notice it. There is, however, a note at some supermarkets not to hoard (which idiots always do in times of unrest or whatever) because there is no supply problem (yet)
