It could be American propaganda. It could be true.
Our world is far from consistent.
Maybe the Russian's didn't care that much. They were superior and they knew it. They didn't need to brag or lie about their performance statistics. Apparently.
And there's a huge difference between a valuable heirloom that can fit in your pocket or under your jacket and a huge shipping container with heavy expensive hi-tech that would be difficult to explain away if caught.
