I recently watched American Moon - US Trailer (Muzzuco Massimo 2018).
The film carefully goes though the history and underscores the spot NASA was put into, because of public propaganda expectations.
Side note: He also directed "September 11 - The New Pearl Harbor" 10/5 stars IMO. He's legit.
During the preparation for the moon mission NASA had produced all of the simulation equipment for the real voyage. This equipment was later used to fake the footage, because the mission was technically impossible with the existing technology. The Russians recognized this and bowed out if the race
It's probably still impossible today.
The film first goes through the history of the lead up to the mission. Presents the official story, and then presents mountains of conflicting evidence which thoroughly debunks the official story.
This is old news to me.
What was new was my understanding of the situation that the astronauts were placed in.
They were the first victims.
Victims of patriotism, and pride. Victims of politicians, and re-elections.
Victims of American exceptionalism...
Because of this they had to remain in silent internal shame about the truth for the remainder of their lives.
The film ends with the first press conference from the first landing.
The astronauts should have been radiating glory. Instead, they were withdrawn and uncertain.
They quietly looked around at each other before answering each reporters question. Their stammered statements couldn't have been more out of place.
They probably felt like they were outside of their own bodys.
They were frightened and struggled to hide their shame.
They were up to that point honest men; who had earned the right to be astronauts on the moon. Heroes who had regularly risked their lives as test pilots for the advancement of science.
Until this point of the show I was laughing at the absurdity of the hoax. I was loving it, cause it was so God damn ridiculous.
Unfortunately, the ending was so tragic, that I felt compassion and pity for these men.
They would have gotten into the capsuled to fly to the moon. They had trusted NASA with their lives. For God and country.
Their politicians shamefully demanded that they fall on their own swords...
They were clearly told, We can't make the ship that you need to fly there, so fake it.
I haven't lost the zeal for debunking bullshit. I will still laugh at the sillyness of the hoax.
- Golfing on the moon.
- Doing donuts on the Rover.
- Having a Rover like they had somewhere to go.
- The LEM launches.
However, there was a tremendous price for this hoax. The would-be heros had died inside. The film gave brief synopsis of their later lives.
They had been betrayed.
They were military officers and would have been forced to swear to remain silent.
They each must have desperately wanted to put it all on the line.
They would have gotten into the capsuled to fly to the moon.
They did trust NASA with their lives.
They had a mission and they did what they had to do. For God and country. Come what may.
This is my takeaway from this film.
This is something that I can still respect.
American Moon.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
