What have you notices between older and newer homes both North America and UK? Like for example the UK has 'on and off' plugs that we don't have at least in the US. What are fuse boxes like between the two landmasses? The US ones look like this. https://www.americanelectricofjacksonville.com/electrical-contracting-services/fuse-box-vs-breakers/
UK ones seem to be like this. https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/guidance/safety-around-the-home/fuseboxes-explained/
In the US we have smoke alarms required in bedrooms while the UK require them on each landing which they 'share' with bedrooms but not installed inside. The US requires hardwired to the mains power supply which I think battery ones are safer due to less likeliness of the national electrical grid causing 'funny things' to happen: even in the small chance someone removes the batteries the electrical risk is far too great IMHO especially if your in a rural area where power flickers a lot and hidden internal damage could occur to the smokes which may not be enough to trigger them to alarm. The hidden damage in this case could go quite some time.
The US we have sliding glass doors to our backyards (though we live in a manufactured home newer) so don't have that but most stick built homes do which I find stupid because they are so easy to pop open when locked unless you block them from the inside so they can't slide.
Also in the USA more and more the garage is bigger then the living room when viewed from Google maps.
