That was a study from Iceland, which inbreeding among third cousins is common. Even health issues with continuous (and I mean continuous; maybe the study was just third cousins one time, but I have to check) third cousin breeding can be common as numerous generations continue to marry their third cousins. I'm going to remain skeptical of this, until I look into the study further. That's also why I figured it would be somewhat unpopular. Maybe these people don't know any of their third cousins like I do, which for them, it wouldn't be a big deal.

    Fuck the 403 error

No one asked. I doubt you read it. My parents aren't related to each other at all. Asshat.

I doubt you're responding in good faith, but no, I wasn't. Maybe your comprehension is worse than mine (damn I'm surprised; mines shit), but neither of my parents are related at all.

if your parents aren't related to each other at all

    then you are adopted

because if you are their natural child

    then

    they are related through you

    LOL gotteeeeeem

So is this an unpopular opinion because you would consider marrying a 5th cousin, or because you think lots of people would marry a closer relative and you are advocating for more distant relation marriages?

Sorry if that confused you. I meant marrying cousins 4th and closer is weird to me because I know of or personally know a lot of them. I would be okay with somebody marrying a fifth cousin and further. I feel like it would be an unpopular opinion because a lot of people don't see anything wrong with marrying 1st-4th cousins, or there's some people that find marrying any cousin is weird (even Kate and William despite 16th cousins being pretty much strangers).

No worries. If I met anyone introduced to me as a cousin, no matter how distant, I don't think it would go any further than acquaintance. It is interesting that Kate and William Windsor are distant cousins, but at 16, that is pretty far.

Looked up Canada on Wikipedia, and we are even more degenerate than I thought with 1st cousin marriage being permitted. <shudder>

Found this gem on a CBC article from 2008:

"Cousin marriage — and marriage between a niece or nephew and their uncle or aunt — is legal in Canada, according to the federal Marriage (Prohibited Degrees) Act of 1990."

The hell. Is wrong. With my country.

Gotta stop going down rabbit holes. Thanks for that, gloomy_bear? 🤣

Lol no problem with the rabbit holes. I go down them all of the time. But yeah 16th is practically strangers. The measurement in centimorgans is that if it's 5cM or less, then it's not really detectable on relatedness. Third cousins can have cM up to 271, but the most cM one can have is identical twins at 5,300-5,600.
