Brilliant cover for another facet of the war on the common man.

The cloud sounds friendly. "Sure! I'll put my information there. Why not? How convenient!"

How many people would have done the same had the option been "Give Amazon/Apple/Google/etc your personal information and trust them to keep it safe"? Doesn't sound so friendly anymore, because people are aware that these companies are acting in their own self-interest, and their self-interest is not the same as our interests.

But by calling the same act "the cloud", bang, they got what they wanted. Ayn Rand saw this "give an act a name that is precisely the opposite of what it actually does" technique decades ago. How do we keep falling for it again and again and again and again...?
