Saidit is a pretty nice place, and being low-key is a positive. The "niggerfaggot" post on the front page is a good indicator for free speech.

That said, it's annoying to have people just spamming it for lulz or trolling. Have your say without being an annoying retard. Use words to make your point or argument.

Voats problem was Putt being absent for months at a time, and not banning trolls who just wanted to wipe shit on the walls. That, and the Qtards. They either had some skillful trolls among their numbers, or they are pretty dumb.

Exactly. And the problem is it takes a lot less time to shit on the floor than it does it clean it up. So there's a lot of burnout.

I am glad saidit is a bit more low-key too, flying under the radar a bit we don't become such a huge target.

Haha glad you like it, it comes to my mind often when doing "janitor" work

Yeah, the reason I'm here is voat.co is way too much edgelord junk. We get plenty of fringe types here, but people are at least able to engage in discussion.

I'm seeing a few with the reddit-leftie mindset of shut it down, but they're thankfully more a minority.

Yeah. Unfortunately I'm seeing an uptick in Jew hating posts in the last few days. Hope they can find a nice little sub and stay there so I can ignore them.

    Yikes, looks like a mess.

Reminds me of the Mike Tyson quote "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

Everyone forum admin has a plan, until a literal swarm of trolls show up and don't leave, and completely overwhelm their userbase.

I hope they can navigate the complicated path they'll need to navigate to sort it out.

Luckily we are already a swarm of trolls.

    [–]Klenvastergan 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Are you using "trolls" to mean "people with sincere opinions I don't like"?

If so, yes, the ruqqus admins had lots of trolls to deal with.

If you mean people who act like assholes for no other reason to upset people, the ruqqus admins completely support those.

Everyone forum admin has a plan, until a literal swarm of trolls show up and don't leave, and completely overwhelm their userbase.

And saidit ties the hands of moderators to prevent them from dealing with this problem.

    [–]magnora7 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Mods are allowed to remove bad faith trolls and always have been. If they're removing the same types of rule-breaking content I am, I'd obviously support them.

Saidit mod rules only prevent the mod removal of things in that are on-topic and in good faith.

    [–]fschmidt 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

The biggest problem today is stupidity. The idiots who ruined Reddit, Voat, and Ruqqus are mostly morons who sincerely believe what they say. So their posts are on-topic and in good faith, but are so stupid that they ruin any meaningful conversation. As an example this post. The problem with this post isn't that it is offensive, but that it is completely moronic. I wouldn't want a post like this in my subs.

    [–]magnora7 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

That's fair. A lot of people use posts like that as a test, a canary in the coalmine, so if you start removing that some people assume the censorship may run deep, which is also fair given the rampant censorship across social media.

I have been thinking of opening another saidit-like site that's highly focused on quality and would ban stuff like that. A hackernews for more than just tech talk, sort of thing.

Do you think you are God? No one person has all the answers. That is why the optimal solution to most problems is freedom. Give all individuals as much freedom as possible, which means freedoms that don't harm others.

The solution to the problem is to change rule 4 to simply:

    • 4) All subs must spell out their moderation policy in the sidebar. No moderation policy in the sidebar means no censorship. Any sub that violates their own moderation policy will be banned.

This gives mods the freedom to moderate, and users the freedom to make an informed decision about whether to participate in a sub. Note that the vast majority of subs on Reddit violate their own moderation policy, so this new rule 4 would be a significant rule.

I am using SaidIt because it is the best available platform. But I have offered to fund a programmer to develop a better platform specifically because of SaidIt's rule 4. So far no one has come forward. If rule 4 was fixed, I would be satisfied with SaidIt and would withdraw the offer.

    [–]magnora7 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Well that doesn't work in practice though, because corrupt mods just come up with corrupt rules for subreddits to destroy and censor them, so that's not really free speech is it? That's the whole problem reddit had. So your idea is actually a step backward because it encourages corrupt mods and recreates a lot of the problems with reddit that we've worked to hard to avoid.

Make a site that has a writing same requirement for voting and posting privileges. Some way to show the user has the ability to think abstractly and form a cogent argument.

Worth mentioning: TheMemery ruthlessly exiles posters that question its mod milkit. It's a censor crying about censorship.

Yeah I'm cooling off on ruqqus pretty rapidly. Every other post is a mutiny or some petty user drama, and it's just turning into a shitfest of the same four users posting unoriginal slurs and "edgy" memes about each other. Good content gets buried quickly and there isn't enough of it.
