It was cold, windy, and wet but we had a blast. The humans anyways, we brought a dog who was miserable. He's a pampered inside dog. Poor guy, we tried to make him comfy but he was having none of it.

The kids, one of them their first trip, made fun of us for everything we packed. Later on, after spending a night in a tent ill prepared for the freezing weather in a thin sleeping bag, she looks at me and says "Now I get it." Priceless.

We did fun camp things, s'mores, hot cocoa, hot dogs roasted over one of the several fires we made, went to a lake, went on a walk, joked, talked a bunch.

But best of all, we're back now and out of that damned cold. Safe and comfy. You appreciate it more.

And my niece is already talking about doing it again, purposely in bad weather, for a week this time. We only had enough time for 24hrs this go.

Also, modern LEDs and batteries are awesome. I remember camping with nothing but a kerosene lantern for light or a weak flashlight if you were lucky. The kids still complained it was really dark but maybe I'll have to dig up an old kerosene lantern to teach em.

Gizmo, my cat, was really happy to see us. It's the longest period in his short life he didn't see Daddy. He received many treats and play. I put new batteries in his battery operated toy.

I was thinking again about the "hands are not toys... Actually this isn't really about camping any more is it?
