All of the leftie think tanks are. That's why they're such a joke.

"We're so pro-worker we even want white collar workers flood into this country and drive down your wage so you're a debt slave until you're 40"

That's bullshit. A minimum wage is instituted to benefit the government not the citizen. To the government, each and every one of us is an atm and a minimum wage guarantees it.

We are only required to have a minimum income so that there can at least be a minimum tax generated. Take the taxes out of the equation, or at least most of them, and people will be able to afford most of the things they require.

You are being exploited alright but you're too stupid to see it because the Federal government has programmed you in it's propaganda camps disguised as learning facilities by a total coincidence of irony and is funded by the very same exploited.

So "a government" tells you that they will give you a new park for your kids to play in and you, being a general moron, say "heck yeah, I'd love a park for my kids to play in! I'll vote for you". That government then taxes the local grocery store. So in order for the grocery store to pay it's employees AND make a profit it has to raise prices on food.

So then you go to the grocery store to buy cocoa pops for your kids before they play in that park the government gave you but wait! Last week cocoa pops were only $2.99, now they're $3.99. Well shit, you can't afford that at your minimum wage job so you write your congressmen and say "hey! I only make minimum wage I can't afford cocoa pops for ma keeedz! but I'll vote for you if you get it raised."

Congressvermin X then hits the house floor and proposes a wage for minimum wage, it runs through the senatescum and then the president dickhead signs it into law.

Now the grocery store has to pay it's employees, all 120 of them $1 more an hour so it has to again raise the prices to pay it's employees AND make a profit. Now cocoa pops are $4.99.

And in the end the idiot exploited now makes more money which the feral government can now tax more and collect more from the average american moron.

Thanks Government!

Yeah, minimum wage is a government program that doesn't even do what it's claimed to do. It also perpetuates the idea that sellers of labor are slaves and need the big gracious government to step in on their behalf. If minimum wage were necessary, nobody would make more than it.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That's how it works alright, but the people themselves perpetuate the system by participating in it. When anyone says, "Well the government needs to do xyz" what they are really saying is that they want government to have more power over their lives. There has never been a time in history, aside from once or twice in remote places, that people have joined together in an equitable society. And it has to be small! As soon a a society reaches a certain population density a megalomaniac will rise from among the ranks and start a system which exploits the weakest members.

Nothing will ever change this basic human instinct, a person's only choice is to fight their own way up the hierarchical ladder and get a better deal for themselves. Coming home every day from a minimum wage job and sitting in front of the television watching 4 hours of mindless news and infotainment is not the way to do it either. But this is what the average lower paid person does. They actively participate in their own poverty. That's not to say that if they all turned off the TV and spent the nights educating themselves that they would all find better paid employment. There simply isn't enough wealth/energy in the world for them all to do that. So it's a classic dilemma, and no amount of changes or cutting back on defense spending will fix it. It's unfixable.

One day soon the american empire will truly collapse, because all empires collapse and the US one is showing all the signs of it. When that happens, and they can no longer borrow money and manipulate prices abroad, what happens to social security? What happens to medicare and all the other federal programs that are basically running of fumes even now? In those days people will look back with fondness on the days of guaranteed minimum wage and discussions like these will be long forgotten.

each and every one of us is an atm and a minimum wage guarantees it.

This guy owns a minwage business.

I'd love to see where you work once the rest of the corona hit businesses close and papa jOE BIDEEN reduces the required wage to 12 cents an hour like the good old days.

Take the taxes out of the equation, or at least most of them, and people will be able to afford most of the things they require.

Taxes SHOULD be reduced, but even working on 7/hr with NO taxes and you won't be able to rasie a family in any of the populous areas of the US.

Back in your day, it was probably closer to 16/hr when the minwage was hit before inflation.

You are being exploited alright but you're too stupid to see it

Increasing the minimum wage reduces govt subsidies to exploitating companies, helps the working class and lower middle class directly, and allows a BUNCH of more new businesses to be opened because SUDDENLY all that wealth ISNT being hoarded in billionairebezo's offshore wealth accounts.

By INCREASING the minimum wage, you are REDUCING the ability of companies to be moving ALL of their profits overseas, peabrain.

So "a government" tells you that they will give you a new park for your kids to play in and you, being a general moron, say "heck yeah, I'd love a park for my kids to play in! I'll vote for you".

Who built the roads, dipshit? Sam Walton on minimum wage???

That government then taxes the local grocery store. So in order for the grocery store to pay it's employees AND make a profit it has to raise prices on food.

'That government' ALREADY taxes us to the tune of nearly 4-5B dollars EVERY year!!!! So they can fix a fuckin street.

So then you go to the grocery store to buy cocoa pops for your kids before they play in that park the government gave you but wait! Last week cocoa pops were only $2.99, now they're $3.99.

That's what's going to happen with the inflation from all these fatcat cucks who gave 3 TRILLION to their friends during the pandemic. NOTHING for the people!!

"hey! I only make minimum wage I can't afford cocoa pops for ma keeedz! but I'll vote for you if you get it raised."

WHOA! ARe you gonna tell me that for poor people it's hard to up and move across the country, let alone pay to move their families????

proposes a wage for minimum wage, it runs through the senatescum and then the president dickhead signs it into law.

Reality:

Democrats- we cant do that becuz the evull Wizard Mitch Mcconndick is blocking it with some evil spell!!!!

Republicans- We wont help workers Lol

Media: ^ THIS is the way that a country should be run!!

Now the grocery store has to pay it's employees, all 120 of them $1 more an hour so it has to again raise the prices to pay it's employees AND make a profit. Now cocoa pops are $4.99.

Great! There's a solution for that! Use your extra ~$40/wk to buy corn pops! How many boxes are you eating? Are you a fucking fatass already? It's only been one week since the minimum wage was raised you freakin implusive dumbass.

the idiot exploited now makes more money which the feral government can now tax more and collect more from the average american moron.

If the average IDIOT is making another 80/mo why do they care if its taxed more? When minimum wage is increased, it's ALMOST like you can advocate for OTHER policies too! I thought people were only allowed to talk about one issue then stfu forever again....

...

Meanwhile, the rich keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer — and the divide is more pronounced between regions, with the South and Midwest being hit the hardest.

Going off of "rate of productivity" means nothing. Automation and Information Technology is a force multiplier.

Individual people are not working six times harder than they were in the 60s.

Compair it to inflation and we could have a possible discussion.

[–]Trajan 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yep. That minimum wage is even relevant to the income of somebody points to low-skilled work that doesn't scale terribly well. While a 1960s computer programmer would be both skilled and able to scale their skills to an expanded market, burger flipping simply doesn't have the scaleability or scarcity that would suggest pay should mirror a rise in productivity in the larger economy or even their industry.

[–]Trajan 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

A quick follow-up. Scarcity and scaleability are highly reliable indicators of the value of a role. Scarcity is fairly obvious as it functions for people just as it does for commodities. If you have skills that are in-demand and are relatively scarce, you'll get paid more. Low-skilled workers are in general not scarce.

Scaleability matters greatly. Take the example of somebody delivering pizza. Sure, they can add value by being charming, and they can be efficient, but they'll only be doing one delivery at a time. Their work is not easily scaleable. By contrast, a person who designs a website for managing deliveries has created a scaleable service that can grow revenues beyond the individual effort put into it. Aside from infrastructure needs, a well designed system will scale from 100 clients to 100,000 with little effort. I've developed automation tools along those lines, where what begins with processing a few thousand rows of data, with good design, moves to tens of thousands.

Anyone whose objective is to make money needs to develop scarce skills. Take an interest in developing new skills related to your industry, even if you don't see an immediate application for them. If the long-term plan relies on the minimum wage being raised then you're doing it wrong.

Productivity growth is thanks to the engineers/scientists etc, not the workers.

Bingo. Simply watch any episode of "How its Made" and marvel at the productivity gains on display.

Ah, Mike Gravel, the answer most americans will say to this: WHO????

The only other progressive DEMOCRAT candidate besides Bernie and Tulsi. He was also done dirty by the DNC disqualifying him for the debates.

Is anyone out there still thinking that the gov't would willingly choose to do a monetarily fair and morally right thing of its own free will? Ha.

The govt doesn't care about your quality of life. If we don't push for our rights & needs they won't be met.

There's also entirely new industries with jobs easier than anything anyone would have paid for in the past.

Same people fighting for these high minimum wages are the ones boasting about how much they make with their only fans and insisting no one is allowed to criticize sex work.

Based on what? Technological / automation advancements that have actually made human labor less onerous?
