You guys got back on the front page.

I think the new items for each sub automatically get to the front page, which seems to be an interesting tweek to the Reddit code, and then votes determine if it remains. If so, I think it's helpful. (Perhaps /u/magnora7 or /u/d3rr can explain.)

Nope, everything appears in /new but they got to the top of the front page through vote manipulation. Front page rank is basically number of votes minus how old it is.

Nuke all these posts. Vote manipulation is reason enough.

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

They're often vote manipulating posts from innocent users though, to try and get me to ban people I shouldn't. Pretty screwball tactic

What's the best way to report malicious users? try /u/ and call the new admin, whatever his name is, directly? I've had poor results with the "report" button, I come back the next day and it's still there.

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Report just flags it for us to look at. Not everything reported will be acted on. And not every report will be acted on immediately.

If there's one that needs removed immediately, PM me with the username and rule-breaking comment

I've been wondering for a while, what font do you use for the ''bost to the front''?

Can you estimate how many new accounts you've made to support this campaign?

[–]magnora7 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (10 children)

They're probably at about 200-400 accounts or so. We remove about 20 every day

I was going to guess around 350, based on the flood of new accounts, plus that magnora230 account I saw a couple days ago. I'd probably just ban those imposter accounts on sight.

I'm still convinced that making it more costly to create a new account, by making new accounts earn posting, commenting, and voting abilities, could help at least reduce the flood. Might take some tweaking of the numbers to balance the troll discouragement against legitimate new user rights.

That's easy for me to say as a guy who gave up coding in the 80s.

I can see how in your position it's hard to know who you can trust, but I hope you're able to overcome this and get more enjoyment from running saidit again. It can be a lot less fun for everyone else when the site owner isn't having fun anymore. [encouragement.jpg]

totally agree. new accounts need and ease in period. Although if the admins relaxed a little and stopped taking things so personally, we could have this content as well as everyone else's and just get rid of the actual spam...

like i get it. actual nazis, but who cares if it is thought provoking?

can be a lot less fun for everyone else when the site owner isn't having fun anymore

preach.

Have you offered help? I got turned down. You'd think all hands against the spam would lighten the load on everyone.

I know M7 and TAM are not perfect, and even I'm not "quite" there... Just yet. We're all doing the best we can with our own imperfections, and I believe they are too. (despite that "far-right trash" comment)

Have you offered help? I got turned down.

We could all help a lot if we didn't focus on their imperfections, and instead pitched in to effectively report spam, ban evasions, trolling, shilling, and all the stuff that degrades our experience of using saidit.

But since we're on the site /u/magnora7 created and owns, it's in our own interest to refrain from criticizing every mistake we believe he's making. Our criticism itself is a mistake, as the typical result of criticising people is to place the receiver on the defensive, and force them to defend the mistake instead of having room to correct it. People with good intentions correct their behaviors that create poor results.

It would be great to have a "Here's how you can help with our spam/troll problem" post. But we can still help on our own.

When you see spam, like a brand new user posting "I make $18K per month, click this link", check their user page and send the link via PM to TAM or M7, with a brief explanation of what they're doing. They get rapidly zapped when I do that.

Same goes for those new accounts posting business promotions from random places around the world.

Hey, I myself am shocked at my call for tolerance and drama reduction, but I think it's in our own interest to do what we can to make saidit a better experience for all of us who aren't trolls and shills, even if we disagree on other stuff.

(someone said you were banned, and I'm glad that's not the case.)

This is not that. this is calling out abuses by an admin.

I'm totally supportive of removing spam. I just don't like it when multiple threads that I am happily engaged with are shoah'd

[–]NodeThis is my flair. There are many like it, but this one is mine. 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

this is calling out abuses by an admin.

My opinion on this varies, as I can see it from different perspectives. Maybe calling out perceived abuses would be a good strategy if it doesn't tend to put people on the defensive? And maybe the admin has the perspective that the 'abuses' are more of the correct thing to do?

I'm just saying that minimizing the drama might lead to better results overall.

It takes more than one person to create drama. If people didn't react negatively and aggressively to what i post, would it still be drama? I mean, i'm not the admin who started up a sub dedicated to removing me as a user and i have never had an apology

Actually, your shitty posts were clogging up the front page, artificially upvoted with sockpuppets, then as now.

Commies should be relocated to safe spaces through legal means, not silenced. Silencing commies can make you one.

Commies numbers grow not because they talk, but because they destroy the society through countless unpunished crimes and then advertise themselves as a solution. It has nothing to do with speech.

People exist and have a right to self-determination, ethnicities is a made up concept. If a man has nothing in common with his tribe, he should leave. If a man shares the value with some other tribe, he should join. All our cells constantly mutate, remove the selection pressure, and every nation will start producing degenerates. Force your system to properly punish all criminals, and all people will develop similar traits irregardless of their ancestry.

To each according to their needs, from each according to their ability

Nice idea. As long as my needs and abilities are decided by me, not by some crazy socialist zealot. In the eyes of a socialist, people have no needs and endless potential. Unless they are a member of the party, of course.
