Assuming house paint or similar it really only comes in one color: White. Though it does come in several finishes: satin, eggshell, etc.

You add tints to it to achieve literally an infinite number of shades, or colors if you prefer.

There are two answers for this one:
Visual Effect - If everyones house is the same shade of Jigaboo Bright then your house might not stand out compared to others. If you use a similar but slightly different shade, then the house looks more unique.
Financial - Different paint shades are innovation, and innovation drives profits. Customers who buy and use your shade of flesh tint suddenly become locked in to buying your product for an entire paint job and maybe forever!
