The Silmarillion, of course.

Less fictional than it seems at first glance.

That is my least favorite book of perhaps all time and I would rather read an instruction manual, but I do own it, so... It would be convienient.

It is an instruction manual. How could you not realize it ?

It is section three of Tolkiens instructions to human life and overall nature.

The Hobbit is the intro. The Lord of the Rings is his assortment of "main" instructions.

And The Silmarillion is the epilogue.

I was just listening to this. Is it just The book of genesis basically? I stopped about an hour in because it resembled the Bible, and I've already read this story.

It is quite different, imho. The bible has this kindergarden-thing with its "protagonists".

Tolkien hasn't. Like real life hasn't.

I won't be able to participate for a few months, but I think this is a fantastic idea. Just letting you know that I am interested.

Because we're living through something similar.

        Excellent choice.

I mean the whole series. The latter parts are quite a parallel to today's problems.

I mean, how could you only read 1 anyways?

My wife had to stop. It was hitting too close to home.

I merely jested that moonlight sonata is so agonisingly beautiful that I could happily club seals to it while gently weeping with joy. I didn't think you'd go all emo on me.

Awesome, I'm seeing great suggestions from you and the group here. I am definitely down to read and discuss some interesting books. I think this is a great idea FYM, count me in.

I don't like books but the writings of Nick Fuentes are quite enlightening
