This is among the more random posts possible. It combines one of the most "acid-trips" of a movie ever made - Being John Malkovich - with our covid moment.

The reason for this combination is the ending of the movie. For those who have seen it, remember how the prime character (Craig Schwarz) is punished at the end. It occurred to me this morning that this is the fate I wish for all the "Faucis and sub-Faucis" of the world, of whom there are millions. This is the appropriate hell for them.

For those who have not seen the movie, a warning up front: this is a bizarre film. But watching it again, I see now an incredible takedown on urban liberal culture. As such, it is brilliant. The ending for the lead character (a sexually-frustrated puppeteer, how appropriate) is a lifetime of complete and absolute loss of control. He will be forced to witness a life which he most desperately wants to take part in and to control, and he has completely zero capacity to do so. He must witness events (which are hateful to him) without the tiniest ability to affect them, and he must do this for a lifetime.

This is the punishment I want for the covid authoritarians. They want to control those they disagree with. I want them to be radically stripped of control of absolutely anything and to have to live like that, suffering purely because of that lack of control.

As I said, there are millions of people who demonstrated themselves worthy of this treatment during the covid moment.

Once again, if you haven't seen the film, I recommend it, but only if you are ready to see a story that does not fit the standard mold. This is not a textbook plot. It's a metaphorical examination of what it means to exist, to influence our world, and to experience it from perspectives entirely different from our own. As such, it comes off upon first watch as just fucking weird.

It gets better with successive viewings. For the community's consideration.
