Years ago I read a book that claimed typical Jews always ask themselves one question: "Is it good for the Jews?"
I don't know whether typical Jews truly ask that question about the good of their group, but it is a fascinating way to analyze different groups' needs. When I consider (e.g.) Vlad Putin, I don't just ask, "Is Putin good for Russia?" but also "Is Putin good for China?" and "Is Putin good for international bankers?" and so on.
