I don't even know where to start.

I'm sick of reddit and their rabid hypocrisy and censorship. They're quick to call people bigoted and pretend to be taking the moral high-ground, but they don't practice what they preach. They call people intolerant of other people's views, or condemn people for making stereotypes, yet ban people for falling outside their strict narrative of what they think the world should be.

They preach not promoting hate based on race/sex/identity/whatever, yet they have subs called /boomersbeingfools, "ACAB" (hate all cops), hate everybody who earns more, hate all landlords, hate all white people... etc., and are totally okay with that. But better not make a joke about a gay person, or it's a hate crime, and you will be banned.

Reddit turned the term "woke" from meaning to "awaken/become aware of injustice" to "being a petulant whiny narcissistic karen". They've taken all these unsavory things, and made it a poster-child for left-wing American politics, of which any reasonable person would be confused. But you can't interject or correct such nonsense in any way, or get swiftly banned. They want to turn the democratic party into a bunch of whiny, freeloading, narcissistic, vindictive creeps.

I can't blame people for being chased away from it (left wing) and falling into alt-right politics because they're so appalled by their behavior. People are willing to give up fair wages, affordable health care, civil rights, affordable anything for the middle class, all because of a few annoying people who want to spotlight the entire democratic party as a bunch of psychopaths. It's like this is a psy-ops by design to do some reverse-psychology on people.

What do we do here? With the flood of outrage-bait out there, we eat that bait up like a bunch of hogs in a trap right before it snaps shut. We grow resentful, we fight hate with hate. Since reddit politics is so toxic, we feel we must be equally toxic and even more opposing to whatever they're doing. Have we learned anything? Is fighting hate with hate the answer? Are we going to improve the human condition this way? Is this going to just repeat out past over and over?

I read through the posts here, and every-other-one has something about how all jews are bad, one of dozens of derogatory names for black people shoehorned into the topic, stupid shallow one-liner memes that are no more intelligent than the filth you see on subs like /r/whitepeopletwitter or /r/justiceserved where you find somebody of certain opposing political affiliation and gloat about how they're a pedo, a rapist, a killer, etc. like it's supposed to prove the point that they're all bad now. It's just a different flavor of stupid, but with the minor caveat that this site hasn't (yet?) turned into a huge censorfest and corporate monetized botfarm. I can't respect people who don't learn, and continue to fight left-wing-bigotry with right-wing-bigotry. We are all imperfect and have our own prejudices, but what makes us better people is how we work to overcome them.

I have friends, people I respect, who are white, black, asian, pacific islander, man/woman, christian, jewish, muslim, athiest, rich, poor... and more. All good people. I can't just overly generalize one of them due to some ignorant stereotype. None of them are filled with hate for each other like our political narratives suggest they should.

Do I see a solution as to being a reddit-nazi and censoring everything I don't like? Absolutely not. Imperfect thoughts and ideas should have a venue to be expressed, discussed, and deliberated on. It's when free speech is suppressed that we don't distill all the noise into the best ideas, because that noise isn't allowed to be compared. (But please learn and grow)

The right actively make things like healthcare or education worse by not imposing the proper regulations to prevent run-away gouging by the industry that ultimately becomes creates worse service for a higher price.

The left tries to "fix" it by socializing the cost of the unaffordable price, but also does not properly address that same industry regulation. The left also pisses people off by trying to bundle in unfair stuff like free sex changes, or arbitrary loan forgiveness that just pisses everybody else off, so they run right back into the clutches of the right thinking they will save them. I'll agree, that equality by reverse discrimination is BS. It's like a bandaid on a problem that you haven't addressed the root cause, so it will not fix that problem. Rather, it will make it worse, as the other unfairness aspect will cause people to resent each other more.

You don't address discrimination by having a quota of how many white, black, etc., people you have to hire or accept into your school. You address it by giving people a fighting chance early in life so they are better able to get those opportunities later in life. Then if you want to remove such perceived bias with school acceptance and jobs, then do a double-blind interview/score/merit based acceptance where the picker doesn't have race/sex/etc., related information when making their selection.

Obama didn't lie. Republicans all voted against it, then blamed Obama for things he wanted to do, but republicans shot down. Then they try for years and years voting for things to make it actively worse, then blame that on Obama, too. And the republican stuff when trump came into office didn't make things more affordable for healthcare, but rather the opposite: it resulted in a 20+ percent increase in premiums.

So fucking what? Though Justice requires that all actual governmental laws must treat everyone equally, people will have derogatory names for others and each other. Seriously, people need to visit Africa. See how things really are, and you'll also help them with tourist money.

Absolutely not, and if that is what you inferred, let me set the record straight.

Even if I have the ability to, I am not going to become a censor nazi, because even if it makes things appear more civilized, it's only a bandaid to a bigger problem. If someone is overtly racist/sexist/whatever, being a dick or a censornazi isn't going to make the world by cancelling them.

The only time I can see it as being somewhat constructive in a completely open forum is if it's to handle spam or disruptive with noise such that it hampers free speech for other. (I mean that like someone just making dozens of threads and comments with a bunch of raving cursing nonsense, and the place simply can't operate at that signal-to-noise ratio.) Any other time, such things should be completely transparent and give an outlet to the proper place when possible: e.g.: "stop discussing your pet iguana in a cat forum, and btw, here is a link".

You have good thoughts about how we generalize and see patterns in things. I have brought up the exact same thing, along with similar examples before, and got shut down as being "racist", "sexist", etc. (Everybody is to some degree) As a more intelligent species, we have the capability to process more nuance in these patterns and make life better. We are never going to be perfect, but we can use our intellect to not hastily jump to conclusions that may not only be incorrect, but damaging to our society as a whole. Not every Muslim is a terrorist, not every christian is a selfish right-wing nutjob, not every tranny is a liberal psychopathic control freak dramawhore, not every black guy is an uneducated violent criminal, not every Asian is good at math, not every straight white male is a chauvinist pig, not every homo has aids... well, you get the point.

I think the direction we are going in terms of social media being poisoned by all this political dribble and ragebait is causing us to do worse, rather than better. Some of the more intelligent people may figure out they are getting played by big government psyops, but even some really smart people I know have succumbed to the bad behavior and hate for each other.

The middle-ground is for intelligent people smart enough to realize both sides of politics are meant to divide us and like Horseshoe Theory, really don't matter at the very top. I mean, did things really change for the better when Trump was in office versus Obama? I like to consider the "middle ground fallacy" where a better solution would be something different entirely.

An example of a middle ground fallacy would be considering two statements about the color of the sky: one claiming, correctly, that the sky is blue, and another claiming that it is yellow, and incorrectly concluding that the sky is green.

Except compromise is sometimes the only way to coexistence, even if you yourself don't believe in it because you have the same knee-jerk "everyone's an Istaphobe but me" childish reactions as all Redditors, which you even did to me. Getting to your main point, someone willing to compromise could say "most of us see the sky of Earth being blue based on our limited human vision, so that's what we're going to agree on, based on our inferior human eyes, even if it's not objectively true." Your "alternative" is to just say "Everyone who doesn't see the sky as blue are just colorists!"

Or, if you're arguing with a flat-Earther, for whatever reason, the best thing to say is "We can agree to disagree" rather than trying to show him or her a bunch of math and pictures of balloon-drones going into low orbit with cameras recording. Which is why I said "the middle-ground is for intelligent people," which you obviously don't qualify for. It doesn't literally mean "add both answers and divide by two" to get the thing exactly inbetween. Which is a retarded and childish way of looking at the world. But I get it; understanding that different problems require a variety of different potential solutions, is beyond the realm of understanding for a former long-time Redditor. I couldn't say for sure what year reddit finally became ground down to the impalpable festering heap of garbage we see today. It's been a gradual process. Was it when Aaron Swartz an heroed? Was it when the warrant canary died? Was it when they shadowbanned people for more than just spam? Was it when they started sitewide banning people for wrongthink or saying gay or fag in the wrong context. Was it for expressing different political views than the toxic-tranny empire wanted, even if you were civil? Hard to say. The frog has been slowly been boiled alive, and I can't say it's still alive at this point.

I look back and about 8 years ago is when I first experienced an account get shadowbanned with no recourse/notification/etc. and it happened right around the time I was calling out some really nasty big corporations and my posts made it to the front page. At that time, I think they had a bot that simply did "if X amount of reports in X time, we shadowban the account." and there were no appeals, or anything. Since then, I see it's actually visible again (shadowbanned accounts before simply didn't show up when you logged out), but I haven't tried to log into it again. I would probably be banned within a week for some minor thing.

Also, I'm older than you think I am. I remember trump being a self righteous douchebag back in the 80s and 90s, and thought it was no more than a joke that he was attempting to run for president. He ripped off so many people, and there was even a documentary "You've been trumped" about his unsavory behavior and actions. Dems must have thought it was a joke, too, because they stuck Hilary in there.

I read through some of your other thoughts, and it's difficult to organize it all in a non-run-on sort of way, but good to know some people are thinking a bit.
