For: all citizens should have a say in how government functions.

Against: Women *may tend to vote as protectees (as if electing a father or husband) or as protectors (as if electing a mother). In either case, the result is larger, more intrusive government.

Side note: I recently realize that Prohibition (18th Amendment) came before Women's Suffrage (20th Amendment). I had always assumed it was the other way around.

Edited for dickheads.

That's not what "protectee" and "protector" mean. And I'd like a source for this interpretation of "women's behaviour".

I never said it was a source. OP asked for 'arguments for and against'. I proposed one of each in under 3 minutes. It's not a dissertation.

Feel free to refute, discuss, or dismiss. I don't really care.

I never said you said it was a source. I asked for a source for your claim because I was interested. Judging by your subsequent behaviour, I assume that it's just based on stereotype and has little to no grounding in reality – whether it is true or not is irrespective of whether or not you've said it, because it being true isn't likely to have increased the chances of you having said it.

For: They're people.

Against: Their vote might disrupt the status quo; it's a large, radical change that might result in the people in power not being in power as much any more, and could lead to women having the rights to be in power (which, by increasing competition, increases the chances of "new blood" appearing).

Industry opposed female sufferage, because they knew that child labor would be outlawed.

Women sufferage for the win.

Women are emotional and irrational thinkers, and act according to how they feel in the moment.

They are herd creatures, highly susceptible to the influence of friends, family and the media, and will vote accordingly.

Most democracies, including ancient Athens, did not allow female suffrage for those reasons.

The elite eventually found it easier to gain the support of the majority by including women, called it equality and then secured the vote through playing to their feelings.
