Tell-Tale Sign Moon Landing Was Fake by XE_Kilroy in conspiracy

I'm not arguing with myself. You said that the landings have been faked. If you don't think there was a landing then all 6 missions would have to have been faked.

So You're saying they would do that for all 6 missions. What would be the point then in going to the moon at all then. Just stay in high Earth orbit and no ones' the wiser. A handful of people? In my last reply I listed what amounts to thousands needed just to make it work.

Someone might bring up the Manhattan project. Those people were assigned to a gulag but once the project was over they were free to talk. NOt one person has come forward about Apollo.

but it wouldn't involve over 100k people.

Sure it would. All of the engineers working on the craft for instance. Then there are all of the people needed to fake the data for the screens. Then the actors, production crew, stage-hands and the like, as well as the astronauts themselves. 6 missions would have to be faked. That's an awful lot of witnesses to dispose of.

Before the landing Apollo 10 docked with the LEM and crew transferred to it. They then separated the craft and the LEM flew independently. The LEM upper stage then fired it's engine to rendezvous with the CM. The LEM met the CM in orbit just as they would around the moon. And, in Earth orbit those craft were travelling faster than in lunar orbit. So, the entire landing event was simulated and all the parts worked.

Thhe moon program was a money pit. After the first landing the public knew the Russians were beaten and the cost of further missions was unpopular. Cutting of the NASA budget is the reason why nothing more ambitious than the shuttle and a crappy space station followed Apollo. The article below is a good read, and the Wik page below gives year to year spending.

But besides all that we have the problem of over a hundred thousand insiders. Not one of those people leaked a conspiracy when doing so could net them $millions.

Well then, where did reality end and a fraud begin? With the entire Apollo program? Earlier? How about the Russians? And how about those flimsy space probes that are currently exploring interstellar space?

If the landings were faked you're talking about a conspiracy involving over a hundred thousand people.

If you're going to question the landing then you'll have to have the same objection to the entire space program. Every step that was going to be needed to land on the moon and do EVAs was proven, step by step, in the previous programs.

Get a man to the edge of space, orbit, maneuver while in orbit, spend as much time in orbit as a lunar mission would take, EVA, docking with another spacecraft.

So even if you question the landing you would have to ask why NASA went to the trouble of all those test-flights.

And even more to the point - if the landing, and indeed the entire space program was a sham then why would NASA present such flimsy and ugly spacecraft to the public? Wouldn't a better PR campaign be to give the public spacecraft that looked like Star Trek? The fact is that all of the spacecraft were built as light as possible while getting the job done. None of them was built with re-use in mind as all were disposable.

Lightning Rises Sharply in the Arctic by Vigte in science

[–]Oortcloud 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The lightening watch network has only been in place for ~16 years and had NO stations in the arctic until more recently than that. In other words, they have NO DATA on which to make any sort of statement. But that goes on in science all the time now. If an observation program makes an unexpected finding then it has to be a sign of unexpected change. If an experiment does not meet expectations then it's due to an unknown dire factor instead of a wrong hypothesis. If anyone wants to know if there has been an increase in lightening then ask the people who live there.

What Reddit bullshit you've encountered? by cloudrabbit in MeanwhileOnReddit

I want to tell you about you about my 9 years suffering daily harassment from Climate Nazis.

My original account was under u/Oortcloud. On my first day on Reditt I enjoyed reading articles and comments. On my second day I commented about AGW and received a reply from u/archiesteel who wanted to argue with me. That guy’s account was only a few days old at the time and he had not commented or replied on any subs. In other words, he’d been lurking and waiting for a victim. I replied nicely to him and that’s where the torrent of abuse and harassment from the Nazis began.

I don’t buy in to AGW purely on scientific grounds. I know my stuff, .and I’m not shy about presenting it. That drove a cabal of Climate Nazis to pursue me and harass me on every sub regardless of the topic. Whatever I wrote HAD to be countered and denied regardless of my supplying references. So, the cabal members argued such things as the gram not being a unit of weight, Einstein being wrong, and Earth radiating x-rays. Apparently, supplying references made me a windbag to them.

As I said, I’d been there for 9 years. I enjoy sharing ideas and observations and over those years I’ve shared a lot. The cabal maintained a dossier of my activity which they posted as replies to my comments regardless of the sub. If it were just them sending me messages I could easily have ignored them by blocking replies to me. But that only infuriated them so they didn’t stop there. Their campaign escalated to PMs to users, mods and admins with stories and lies. Other Climate Nazis are quick to believe every word and so there’s a sizable community of people believing all sorts of crazy shit. I’ve even had an admin laughing over that cabal torturing me. One of the cabal set up a sub devoted to trashing me under my former account name, u/HappyFluffyBunnies. The sub r/HappyFluffyBunnies could not be ignored even by rat-sack admins who took it down. So it was replaced with r/ShitDeniersSay – another sub devoted to trashing me.

One would reasonably expect that admins would look into daily reports of harassment from a user, and that action would be taken. My entire experience above comes down to Reddit admins actively supporting the harassment of users in order to drive them off of Reddit. The admins have their own twisted criteria as to what opinions are valid and deserving of protection versus those that must be crushed.

So, how'd you pick your screen name? by theFriendlyDoomer in AskSaidIt

I chose the handle "Oortcloud" back in the 80s when the internet was still in it's infancy. Names were called "handles" then just like ham radio people had handles. I chose the name because at the time the oort cloud was only an educated speculation and that's what I was in to.

Why are all the planets on the same orbital plane? by Optimus85 in space

[–]Oortcloud 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Planets orbit in roughly the same plane due to the Lense-Turing effect, also known as frame drag. The gravity of a large spinning object drags space along with it and so objects are drawn to the equatorial plane. The effect itself is tiny but relentless. We now have evidence of exoplanets that have been perturbed in their orbits and so orbit well off the plane. Over time those will be dragged back to the plane of the parant star.

If we look at our own system, the planets deviate from the plane more as we move from Mercury out to Pluto. Earth is the only odd-ball which indicates that at some time in it's deep past Earth's orbit must have been perturbed by some passing massive object. If we go out farther we can even see the effect in the oort cloud, where it's resembles a torus rather than a spherical shell. Planets may form on a plane but there is no reason for them to stay there. In Newtonian physics there is no preferred plane of orbit, but in relativistic physics the spin of the star does create a preferred plane of orbit.
