You're gonna cry when I post some of the really fucked up human rights abuses I found being committed in the name of enforcing these fucking lockdowns and mask orders onto people. Go look up what happened in Melbourne real quick. Seriously, DuckDuckGo it. You will hate humanity forever after reading that nasty shit.

Which at this point legitimately might not happen. :(

Please convince me I'm wrong.

I'm thinking we need to create a new search engine and pimp it out everywhere. Possibly even a separate network entirely.

I would bet money that it's either one of the U.S.'s political faction or intelligence agencies trying to destroy political opposition.

I don't think there are any real technological solutions to this. What we really need are political solutions.

The human race and the planet itself are going through some extreme labor pains right now. We can only hope it, and its child, survive -- and that that child is not a monster.

The problem is that you are not as authoritarian as the left and you're getting your ass kicked. As I said, there is no reason for the left to give you an inch. But instead of advocating for your side, you die on the hill of principles people hold decreasing interest in.

I used to think that way back when I was a member of the alt-left and I used to express similar sentiments. Back then, I didn't really realize how other people would take that and how far they would go to get what they want, and that although thankfully I never stepped beyond the Moral Event Horizon to accomplish my goals, that they would.

Politics is not football. We can't treat it like football if we're going to have a meaningful democratic society or even if we're going to deal with a rogue political faction going off the fucking walls. And I have learned that it is possible to beat them with fairness, and confidence, and without stooping to the level of brutally subjugating innocent people. It's possible if you're willing to do the right thing and not care about what other people will think if you do so -- so long as your methods do not involve abusing other people.

The ends do not justify the means. The means determine the end result, and that's not a kitchy saying, that's an actual fact of life. HOW you solve problems is what actually affects the real world, not your stated goal or your intentions. Your actions are what matters. Remember that.

I disagree that I should have to continuously defend and justify myself in unproductive and often infuriating conversations, just so everyone feels "included".

And we've all seen where that kind of frustration leads us. It might suck for you, but if you're finding you have to constantly defend yourself when talking to other people, the problem might not be them, the problem might be you and who you're hanging around with.

I checked, those were the only two affected. Any place that allows downvoting opens the door to ideologues exploiting it to silence those they disagree with. And developers will skew algorithms to do the same.

This is what we in the business call propaganda. One singular anecdote framed as a morality tale warning against defying the narrative.

Go to Voat with the rest of the bigots then if you feel that way.

Here, Ruqqus and other websites that will spring up actually are for unregulated free speech and for fostering a marketplace of ideas instead of letting ideologues like you control discourse. You're just as authoritarian as the left and are just as much a part of the problem.

It's because nobody wants to admit the Bill of Rights applies to private entities too because that would take away their ability to censor and dominate other people however they want.

People don't really respect rights anymore.

You know what would be a viable solution? An algorithm that allows the user him or herself to filter out racist content from their feeds instead of the site censoring everybody.

I'm sure that would be abused somehow, but if it were made as like an add-on or a separate app the user could remove at any time, guaranteeing the truly unfettered nature of the site underneath, that would allow every faction to coexist on the same website in relative harmony by simply erasing the existence of the other from their view.

And we've seen how completely and utterly destructive that kind of thinking leads, so maybe it's better that people put up with the mild inconvenience of having to defend their position whenever they express it, and actually learn how to connect with other people and debate properly -- or even worse, learning how to just ignore people who say such things and not respond to them at all.

Or we can all continue to get more and more violent and kill each other in a massive civil war that will collapse the country and allow other countries (Russia, China) to get ahold of our nukes. That would totally be the better option than having to defend our own opinoins

I noticed Ruqqus actually does this too when I was downvoted for calling out a racist. Went from 115 Rep to 27 rep, all for two posts that were -14 and -15 points, respectively.

It's scary how the world is splitting up into factions and how entire social systems are being set up to glorify the opinions of the political faction they market to.

They're moving servers right now and hopefully after that the dreaded 503s will go away. It's not like people can't just go both here and there though.

Imagine thinking anybody actually cared about treating the coronavirus and not that most people are just using it as an excuse to take power over everybody else.
