I was being treated for body dysmorphic disorder and I couldn't make sense of the "differences" between trans dysphoria and what I was dealing with. Some people tried to recruit me, but it never really stuck because my focus areas and obsessions were mostly unisex. I really did try to make sense of it. I read everything I could and talked to trans people. I thought it would make me a good and educated person but deep down, I was terrified that if these people were really men and women, it meant that my constant churning thoughts were real too and I was really hideously deformed. My skepticism grew and broke over when a particular person tried to tell me that people with BDD can basically get whatever surgery they want to feel better and only poor suffering trans people have to deal with doctors and their fussy gatekeeping. Every part of that claim was a lie, and I knew it. This was at the time of peak popularity for born again national embarassment Bruce Jenner; he'd been out for a while and swiped woman of the year, but his unwoke conservative opinions hadn't blown up on tumblr and twitter yet.

I don't 'cycle or fluctuate very much but I really like the crescent moons. I have some personal affinities with the moon, and it looks mysterious and powerful. I think I'm partial to anything that isn't as geometric as a flag or the sex symbols.

ETA: I remember talks on one of the bisexual subreddits of "weapon" symbolism i.e lesbians have a labrys, gay men have a broadsword, and the bow-and-arrow for bisexuals. It's not a terrible idea but I don't know much about it (namely whether or not this would feel like stepping on lesbian toes.) If I find anything else I can bring it here too.

I'm going to get really crazy and suggest that if your porn tastes are so disconnected from real life that you have to write an entire thinkpiece about convincing yourself that it's fine, then maybe you shouldn't be consuming it. Some people know that they can't have just one beer, some people know that hard drugs don't mix well with their family history, what exactly makes porn an idiotproof one-vice-fits-all?

I started to feel sympathetic but I looked at OP's history. He's a colonizing asshole! He has no problem whining to other trans women in a trans space about dysphoria - this is where I learned that he hasn't even come out or started transitioning - but when the mood strikes he'll stroll into a lesbian space and start pity parties about trans feelings there instead.

I looked at his other posts and wow he needs real therapy. Everything about him screams "I have no boundaries" and that attitude is a magnet for predators no matter what you call yourself.
