I think the reasoning is you do everything and anything in defence of your client and then if they’re found guilty there can be no comeback. Remember the taxi rank system means that barristers don’t have a lot of options to choose their clients, especially in the specialist law fields like sex crimes.

I’ve watched quite a few videos by a barrister who does animal rights work, and he says that he often finds himself in court representing farmers against animal cruelty charges because he is one of the top animal law barristers and so if a client comes up in the taxi rank he has to take them and provide a full defence even though he himself is a vegan, animal rights activist.

Personally, I’m glad the barrister made that argument, because now it’s been rejected by a jury in a rape trial it very likely won’t be tried again.

There was fury today after a transgender rapist attacked two women as a man then changed gender before the trial.

Isla Bryson was a shaven-headed Adam Graham with a Mike Tyson-style face tattoo when she carried out the violent sex attacks in 2016 and 2019 after abusing the victims she originally met online.

Bryson, who claimed to have had gender issues since the age of four, began transitioning from a man to a woman in 2020 after being charged with the rapes. Her defence KC Edward Targowski even told High Court in Glasgow: 'If you accept that evidence, that she is transitioning, that she is aiming to continue on that path to becoming female gender, that goes a long way to acquitting her of these charges'.

Scottish Conservative shadow community safety minister Russell Findlay said today: 'This rapist decided that he was no longer a man only after appearing in court on a rape charge.

'We now have the utterly perverse situation where a Scottish court refers to someone who says he identifies as female using 'her penis' to rape two vulnerable women.

'We warned of the inevitability of this happening if the SNP's gender self-ID law passed, but for it to have become reality is deeply worrying and an affront to the victims.'

Yeah, I’ve dealt with two safeguarding incidents at school involving an under-10 interacting online in an inappropriate way. Thankfully it came to our attention and we could step in before the children came to harm, but one of them was a very close call - but both occurred because the parents had zero understanding of what giving internet devices to their children meant and the risks that they were exposed to behind their bedroom doors.

And the saddest thing is, we send out internet safety stuff for parents all the time, including keeping them updated about any particular risks for children. They just seem to think their children won’t be the ones getting exploited or groomed.

It is a very strange situation. People with body dysmorphia aren’t offered amputations and people with eating disorders aren’t offered bariatric surgery, so why are people with gender dysphoria being offered mutilating surgeries and being told that that is the best course of treatment?

The push to ban “conversion therapies” in the UK is nothing more than an effort to make the medical/surgical affirmation route the only therapeutic option for people with GD. It is simply a cynical piece of legislation that addresses a non-issue, gay conversion therapy just isn’t happening in the 21st century UK and the fact that there is no ring fencing for ethical psychological therapies for people with GD makes me suspect that outlawing anything but affirmation is the whole point.

That being said, the aesthetic cosmetic surgery and dentistry industries also need a massive investigation as well, some of the horror stories that come out about stuff that is happening in Eastern European, Turkish, SE Asian and S American surgical and dental clinics are the stuff of nightmares.

I need to clarify a point.

I presume that Canada has, as it has a parliamentary system like Westminster, a provision in its constitution that means that no Parliament may bind a future Parliament - meaning that laws can always be amended or repealed. I think that this is an absolutely necessary provision, the consequences of allowing a Parliament to pass a law that could not be amended or repealed by a future Parliament don’t bear thinking about.

However, the consequence of this safety measure is that a reasonable law, like allowing terminal cancer patients in intractable pain to control the manner and time of their death can morph into a law where someone with depression can suicide with state assistance and THAT is outrageous.

This hasn’t only happened in Canada, it’s been a problem with the euthanasia law in Belgium too, it seems that the pro-euthanasia side cannot help themselves and seem set on widening the qualifications for assisted suicide until they’re installing suicide booths on street corners.

Canada has completely changed my mind in regards to euthanasia, I used to think it was in line with the liberal concept of individual rights and freedoms - the freedom to choose the manner and time of one’s death to avoid suffering and preserve dignity. Bog standard transvestite, got himself off cross-dressing in private and then decided to use gender identity theory to force everyone else to participate in his fetish when he no longer got the thrill from doing it in private/fetish venues. Izzard did a fairly good job of making it no big deal for his stage shows, but having seen him walking around in person several times (in London and New York) he didn’t seem to need to do it in public until recently, and now he dresses like someone’s grandma with makeup applied with trowel.

The University of Southern California's School of Social Work has published a letter saying it will remove the word 'field' from its curriculum and practice and replace it with the word 'practicum' instead.

The move is meant to reflect 'anti-racist' values, but some have argued that it insults the intelligence of the people who it is addressing.

’This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language,' the letter read.

'Language can be powerful, and phrases such as "going into the field" or "field work" may have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign.'

Houman David Hemmati, a board-certified MD Ophthalmologist and PhD research scientist, tweeted: 'Today, @uscsocialwork sent out this letter announcing that they will no longer use the word 'field' (as in 'conducting field work') because it's perceived as racist. Is this with merit or empty virtue signaling?'.

An Opinion piece by the Washington Examiner said: 'Only an overeducated, self-righteous, supercilious left-wing academic elitist would think of something like this. It is an outlandish statement and indicative of the intellectual rot that plagues universities throughout the country.'

It noted that immigrants and black people are not the only ones who 'go into the field', highlighting how farmers of Asian and European descent throughout history have survived thousands of years of human civilization without being troubled by the use of the term.

I think the problem with your argument is, these men have already been effectively removed from the gene pool for the fact that they’re dateless ogres no one actually cares about, “transitioning” does nothing in that regards, but it does give them social clout and stops them being the bottom of the victim hierarchy and in that sense it is a smart move in a world where victimhood has become social credit and being male has none (despite the high levels of suicide, unemployment, lack of qualifications, poorer outcomes in education, higher risk of being the victim of violent crime etc etc).

A bit of compassion towards these young men, maybe looking into issues such as educational underperformance, suicide etc might just alleviate the conditions from which these horrorshows come. But, no one cares….let’s just run yet another drive for more women in STEM (or as I saw the other night more female sailors in the RN). It’s cliche now but any boffin in a film will almost certainly be a woman, and I will put money on the next Q being a woman.

As the lead teacher for Computing at my last school I was inundated with offers for clubs, prizes, trips, exhibitions, courses, software, stipends, freebies, aimed at girls in computing. I never got one single offer for boys, not one, despite white working class boys being the lowest educational achievers in the country.

The past forty years of ignoring boys’ needs in schools and demonising masculinity is paying off it seems. You see it when you go into primary schools as a male teacher, the boys are actually excited to see you as they have very likely never had a male teacher.

So yes, Incels are a problem and their philosophy is sick, but society created it by making sure that the boys were ignored even when they were in desperate need of help.

The thing I have a problem with her on is her apologia for women in prison as she goes quite a way down the “it’s not their fault they’re there, they’re all victims of domestic abuse, they’re there for non-violent crimes and non-payment of fines”.

It doesn’t undermine her argument against placing biological men in women’s prisons, but it is the argument often used by feminists arguing against incarcerating women at all - ignoring that it is far less likely that a woman will get a custodial sentence compared to a man convicted of the same crime.

Other than that, it was a good discussion.

To be fair, this is standard operating procedure with the pharmaceutical industry. They use every possible dirty trick to market their drugs, including forming “patient support groups” who lobby politicians to support their latest drugs, funding dodgy studies and bought-and-paid-for researchers. The entire clinical research field needs a massive shakeup to eliminate this shit. Thankfully, things are beginning to happen like forcing researchers to register their trials so that they can’t just bury bad results any more by not publishing them.

More needs to be done though.
