I wonder how many other frivolous media conversations are actually just cover-ups to drown out other more important stories.

When you post there is a 'title suggest' button.

They set up a server, made a post linking their server to saidit, used the title suggest, then looked on their servers and saw where the title request was coming from. This was fetched from the real IP, rather than the masked IP. Then they were able to directly DDOS us.

Pretty tricky

Unlike George Bush Jr who started a $2 trillion dollar war over false pretenses (WMDs that didn't exist and 9/11).

Not a huge Trump fan, but his approach to respond to the pressures put on him by the military-industrial complex is refreshing and interesting to watch. He's oddly one of the better anti-war presidents we've had in a while.

Hell of communities name-call 24/7 and it's their community norm.

Yeah but I don't consider it genuine name-calling as it's not done with genuinely hurtful intent. If everyone obviously knows it's playful, it's fine. But if someone is just trying to be a hurtful ass, then that violates the name-calling level.

It's about intent. And the pyramid of debate is just an objective (as possible) metric by which we can judge people with good intent from those with bad intent. It's a lot more specific then most sites which just say "no hate speech" which can mean almost anything at all. The pyramid of debate is just a well-laid-out way of saying "don't be a dick". So if someone is calling names but everyone involved knows the language is meant in a joking manner, then they're not being a dick. So the pyramid doesn't really apply in that case.

But at the same time, someone can't just be an ass and then claim they were just joking. If they're the only one joking, it's not a joke. Everyone more or less has to be in on the joke. Again it's about intent.

If people have bad intent, the pyramid of debate lets us objectively measure how far off track they are compared to good quality discussion. Then an accumulation of low-pyramid events indicates a pattern that can then be acted on.

That's how I think about it. I hope that makes it more clear. I want this stuff to be clear for everyone, because it's the basis of the site's administration. To really boil it down, the pyramid is just a way to see how much of a jerk someone is being, while minimizing emotions getting in the way while making the judgement, which is very often a problem with site administration and moderation.

Well as you're basically un-ironically calling for their death, I'd say that's generally not okay. But it depends on context. Also your overall post history and intent is taken in to account to judge your character. The rules are fairly laid-back, and you will get tons of warnings before you are banned, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just enjoy the site without wishing death on people, and there's not much to worry about.

I agree completely. It all comes down to debt slavery (and wage slavery) which is driven by the central bank that loans to the government. In a debt-based monetary system such as ours, every dollar created has immediately more than a dollar of debt associated with it. So the debt, mathematically speaking, can never be repaid. This is the means by which the central banks of most every nation control the governments. And the Rothschilds started this very central banking system design in England and France in the 1820s, the system that was then copied to take over most governments in the world to this very day.

All the rest of the personal debt and household debt and business debt and banking debt stems from this central bank debt. Then it can be used to grow or destroy nations at their whims, putting the governments in a hostage situation. That's why everything is so messed up. It all comes back to usury and unsound money like you said.

How the taxes on the wealthy have fallen over the past 70 years (USA) by magnora7 in gifs

The booming middle class in the 1950's was funded by real money and the fact that we were the only first world country that didn't get fucked up in WW2.

Partly, but also partly because of the huge tax rates on the highest tax brackets. Look at these tax brackets from the 1950s: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hitLCGRQuKU/TjyAfiJY8XI/AAAAAAAAB6g/d_2UJUgtjr4/s800/1950s%252520Tax%252520Rates.JPG

Yet this was simultaneously the era of henry ford and many other american inventors and businessmen that became billionaires, dispelling the myth that high taxes on the super-wealthy causes billionaires to leave the country. It's like we won't even try, and it's because billionaires write all US laws for the last 30 years.

I agree the inflation caused by our monetary system after the nixon shock also played a huge role.

Reddit is dying. It’s rank has fallen from 13th this summer to 18th today. Conservative censorship and mediamatters/Shareblue shilling are destroying the site. by Orangutan in SaidIt

Almost certainly. I even wouldn't be surprised if they had their own bots to fluff up the numbers. The google trends line (which measures how many google searches) is unnaturally straight for the term 'reddit', look at it: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=reddit

This is clearly a result of them gaming the numbers, because they have quotas to meet, because they're a for-profit company that relies largely on ad revenue and they have investors to please. That's why there is such an unnatural straight line upward for 10 years. Look up any other term or company and you will see much more variation in their growth and decline. Reddit is 100% gaming the system imo

What is Saidit's stance on using a sub to brigade/harass offsite? by HorrorShow in SaidIt

I'm not a huge fan of it but it depends on what exactly is being done, this kind of thing I have to evaluate on a case-by-case basis. It's one thing to have a bit of fun, it's another thing to destroy other people's ability to communicate to silence them. The former is fine, the latter is not, and there's a whole spectrum in between that we'll have to judge the character of as it comes along.

The numbers are fake, reddit is faking traffic numbers for profit. Only thing that makes sense imo

The actual effect of these sorts of taxes is to entrench the current oligarchs and prevent new ones from arising.

Disagree, we saw a booming middle class in the 1950s, mostly funded by these taxes on the hyper-wealthy.

Yeah it's coming soon, couple weeks at most. It will only affect new user accounts though. If you wish to unsubscribe from all subs and create your own list, there is an 'unsubscribe from all' button in the user preferences, and also a setting to set your home page to 'subscribed'. This will make it similar to reddit. But we're probably going to make this the default setup for new users in about a week.

That, and also the recent hack made us have to re-evaluate some design choices, which got us making other changes too.

There is the main server, which has most everything.

Then there is the irc server, which will be at irc.saidit.net

Then 3rd server will act as a proxy server for the main server for media content. It will also host thelounge, which is our IRC chat software that runs in-page

This will protect us by compartmentalizing the different functions, as well as providing necessary proxy services which mask our IP.

We'd love to help IRC make a comeback.

Not a bad idea, we've thought about it before but then it makes the numbers a little more difficult to display clearly on the main page. We might try it out your way someday

I think as civilization collapses, people begin to suffer, and their suffering makes them ask questions that unveil broken parts, and look for people to blame, all of which makes the thing collapse even faster. But it always rebuilds later
