If there were things like buggalo around I might consider it. Because then they would be big enough to cut out specific body parts like one would with steak or ribs. At the very least the bugs should be big enough to manually remove their shells and stuff, like you would a lobster. Otherwise you'd always ingest an inconsistent mishmash of incompatible and unappetizing parts with your meat, including digestive tracts(and the materials therein). There's a reason bugs never really caught on for people who could afford other animal meat.

But the land arthropod varieties are way too small for that treatment. It's their respiratory system(tracheae) that hold them back in terms of size. They at least need gills or book lungs to become any bigger. Also, bigger land arthropods like the coconut crab need to eat tons of food themselves to become that big. You can probably grow them but it'll be inefficient because the cycles of growing and shedding their beefy exoskeletons are materially inefficient. And that's basically the whole point of bug farms. Efficiency.

tl;dr - It's either unappetizing to eat them small, or inefficient to grow them big. So pick your poison. I let mother nature do the latter and eat their largest members(crustaceans) occasionally, but I stick with the big 3(beef, pork, and chicken) most of the rest of the time.

Your honest opinion on transgenders? by detarame in TumblrInAction

[–]MarkJefferson 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That saying the transgender boom is too big and too bizarre - there must be some structural societal reasons for it to appear so popular in the West. It's seems so dominant even 'social contagion', 'fashion' or 'big pharma conspiracy' theories actually aren't that convincing.

I honestly think many more people than will ever be admitted, don't like the gender roles and expectations that are at the heart of this phenomenon. But everywhere else in the world the human reactions to it are ruthlessly suppressed other than in the West. So it just seems like a Western-made problem. But here it is just given the time and room to breathe. And the oxygen to burn. The deep dissatisfaction was already there in society; Someone simply lit a match.

Continuing the analogy, one group just wants to watch it burn without mitigation. They believe it will eventually burn itself out. And it will... but with consequences. The other group wants to put it out and keep it from getting big again by dumping water on it whenever they notice it igniting. Few want to put in the work or stick out their neck to remove the pile of fuel that feeds it, though. Because whenever someone gets close, they'll be accused of either intending to accelerate the flames or snuff them.

Pan is a particularly slippery label. Much like the Teflon inside of them.

It can be used in multiple ways to obfuscate one's sexuality:

If you're straight you can use it to become spicy with plausible deniability, by chalking any lack of attraction to one sex down to "compatibility". (Doesn't work if they know you well)

if you're gay you can use it to get homophobes and TRAs(frequently one and the same) off your back with plausible deniability in much the same way. (Also don't work if they know you well)

If you're bi you can use it to get Trans/Enbys who feel excluded by the 'attraction to 2 sexes' definition off your back. (Becoming redundant now, as the definition of bisexuality is morphing to include more than 2 genders)

Anyway, Pan is a double-edged sword for trans in particular. They can feel included by it, but not gender-validated.

It's there but intrinsically unsatisfying; Like eating mock meats. It's akin to someone asking what nation(s) you are a citizen of, and you respond with:

I'm a citizen of the WORLD!

I mean that's good and all that, but at the same time it's not really saying anything...

One last note. It's useful for eroding someone's boundaries. Because if some self-identified pan rejects you, just identify as any of the genders and accuse them of bigotry against that particular one with some ethnicity/disability/neurodivergence intersectionalism tossed in. The woke crowd will support you, and so they'll cave eventually to your designs from peer pressure.

[–]MarkJefferson 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Straight men have less to gain from this. In fact, the movement usually makes a point to either alienate them (by telling them how they aren't welcome there) or break them into obedient vassals. It's like a left-wing counterpart of the Redpill movement – which mostly works by scaring away self-respecting women and leaving those already conditioned to accept abuse.

Have you heard of Transbians? If a straight guy transitions, they became "gay" and a "woman". They basically turn from "cis het male oppressors" to transwomen who apparently experience homophobia and "transmisogyny" at the same time. Tbh, in this woke intersectionalist era, I'm not surprised so many go that route. But they definitely have a lot to gain from gender ideology(just not without first identifying as a woman). More than enough to cancel out any perceived white privilege if they are white. I wouldn't be surprised if transracialism was acceptable they would "transition" there too to climb the intersectionalist ladder to eventually become Assistant Secretary for Health or something.

Anyway, r/ActualLesbians is full of these people. It's quite a LARP-fest over there..

They make bug patties out of midges in some places, but the conditions that allow for enough of those for meals only occurs maybe once(for a few days) in an entire growing season. Then it's back to cooking roots and catching fish.

Anyways, we already effectively eat huge insects in the form of crustaceans(crabs, lobsters, shrimp, crawdads). And those are actually big enough to give decent output(protein, fat) for our inputs(fuel, labour, tech). So the bug-eating advocates can go enjoy their delicious Cockroach Milk with Crunchy Grasshopper Biscuits, and I'll have to contend with my Spicy Seafood Gumbo🍲

For different times and different people, I have been assumed to be both. But I think that's rather common for a lot of people whose behavior overall is not particularly masculine or feminine.

They definitely overhyped it then. Zelda's a good series, but I do remember not being particularily interested in SS. I wanted another Ocarina of Time, which Twilight Princess sadly did not satisfy. Even now I haven't yet finished the game. And from the looks of it I could tell SS would be a very linear game with a small overworld which I personally was really not in the mood for back then. Open world was all the rage when it came out and I think everyone was craving that type of sandboxy game. Nintendo delivered on that eventually, though with Breath of the Wild.
