Although I like the idea of something like a "pyramid of debate" as mentioned and holding yourself accountable to it, I really think this site is stepping into dangerous territory by making this an actually enforced rule. The reason being that this is honestly so subjective, and its really up to the individual when someone has gone too far. This also shows the issue of centralized moderation, which this site seems very ceciptable to.

Forceful enactment of the debate pyramid never occurred IIRC, It's a thing/ideal to point at when a 'discussion' grows to a flamewar... Like the excuse for a bartender to refuse to pour one guy a drink and the other does get another while they both drank the same amount... because the one could hold his liquor better... The pyramid is like that, when it gets too crazy (again which has not happened as far as I'm aware of) the bartender can piint at it as say 'we don't serve drunks' (even though everyone in the bar is drunk, but the one getting expelled is a particular dick).

I really think you see too much doom in this and to be sure, I'm not particularly defending the pyramid, but the purpose and how it's been used I can only truely condone and even say I will stand by it. It's not for shutting people up, it's for (prematurely, like when people breath in and remember the pyramid) dousing the flamewar.

About the porn, there is freespeech endorsement by the FBI (pornhub) for that. One of the problems is just this:

so long as you remove any reported CP links.

Yeah so NO, if the tumbnail displays it, it's too much already. If a mod has to check it (LOL YOU VISITED THE CP LINK NOW) that's a mental burden few can carry for long {If you live in a western country, just search or call the police and ask how those investigations go and how many people need to take breaks of 1-2 years for that kind of shit work, because YEAH seeing that shit when you don't get a stiffy from it is more than disturbing, let alone sickening..)

So I can fully agree for this small team of admins to NOT deal with any of it (because hey, there come the discussions about those amateur pics that might be underage but NOBODY KNOWS... That's dicy.)

If you really need free speech for sexual/porn things, hit me up, I'm dutch and even have connections in the legit scene of the hosting world (who carefully work together with the police), but a 'favorite search engine'-search would find you a platform for that.

As conclusion, see Saidit as a library in which you can have heated arguments... just don't pull out your digglydoo or rub your clitaremaso! Because then you'll get expelled, also when you go from heated to chair-throwing with an argument.

  • Disclaimer: The only relation I have to saidit is that I mod 2 subs and have this account, I do not speak for the creators, hosters nor admins.

The best way to 'go around' this is filtering your subscription list at https://saidit.net/subs and when you see it happen in broader category subs and You have the time, refute it.

Keeping the https://saidit.net/static/debatepyramid.jpg in mind, if you can't get further than a contradiction it's probably 'wasted time' anyway in these cases.

If you can work with the magics schools of vim or emacs You know everything is a blated GUI shitfest and to stay away from it. Getting up and changing the thermostat, searching for the TV remote and going out to talk to people about they day/life is the much needed exercise we desk sitters need.

I don't do sports, but I'm more outdoors than iphone hipsters who travel a lot but basically travel to another (EU) country to sit in a starbucks for wifi to watch/dl netflix.

A x220 thinkpad, 2006 desktop, raspberry pi, S5 smartphone (de-googled, 7Euro a month service fee for 1500MB internet and unlimited calls) and a ps3 are my gadgets. They all 'help' me in their intended way and don't burden me with unnecessary bloat (except the desktop running windows only for games, tricked microsoft int accepting a burner gmail-account to have my win8-10 account info, very clever/funny names on there).

It's all about real luxury, having to go through some fancy-pansy gui app to change the temperature is SO MUCH MORE of a hassle than doing it the old way and you're stuck when there is an internet outage..

If you can't find within 30 minutes of search and coding a suitable script to manage it.. it ain't 'high'-tech it's bloat ware that gives you more head-trauma than doing it manually.

Saidit, what if we showed who voted on everything? by magnora7 in AskSaidIt

[–]Mnemonic 6 insightful - 2 funny6 insightful - 1 funny7 insightful - 2 funny -  (0 children)

I'm not sure... Might start discussions about someones vote too much and thereby generating comments that are 99% sure to be useless.

This would also give more power to votes given and less to ignored ones. I mean, did I ignore a posting or was I away for a day a 'missed' it?

Edit: I can see this starting people to use the fun vote to denigrate a posting (So you can show you 'disagree').

I'm for fun change! It's less degrading sounding as funny.

Entertaining is a bit hard to convey in the current emoji and may overlap too much with insightful.

We can even explain it to the Germans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZFwMwQdvQM

If you make this Sub you're....

pretty cool.

But there are people who, if they died tomorrow, would cost hundreds or thousands of people their jobs. So I believe those people are quantifiably more valuable,

No this is a flaw of the machine/system.

Maybe (and this is just me musing about your intentions) you were thinking of community pilars (and not the ones that are 'promoted' by MSM, but people YOU yourself regard as community pillars (your neighbor can think of another person then you for their own reason).

I liked your intentions (as I read them) up until that part, because I'm not sure what to think of it... Do you mean it capitalistic? do you mean it as a sarcastic Marxist? [two overused and hopefully non-of-the-two depicting your intentions of that sentence].

Why do I post this and subscribe and not just ignore? Well, because I'm not sure about what mental lock you're talking about.

I don't know a economic view/life philosophy/life view that doesn't account for death (albeit some do do reincarnation, but I'm pretty sure that's not a thing for here).

Some of them turn out pretty good. Mostly the hair, eyes and/or teeth five it away.

Also I had 2 where there was a second face gruesomely misformed floating beside it, So it probably takes elements from real pictures and mixes them up.

I can only see it ratting out vote-spams or scheduled-vote-session, because some submits just get more traffic than usual and we pretty much remove spammers already because you don't need an algorithm for that to spot (Like that Australian lawyers firm :p ).

I quit twitter because it was fun in the beginning, tweeting from your (now) antique smartphone that you are going to take a shit and various thoughts popping up during lectures, but around 2014-2015 it was an ad infested and mostly dominated by 'influencers' that the fun wasn't there.

I quit facebook/instagram so I could have conversations with people instead of being asked for my facebook, giving it and being scrutinized for my musical tastes and excluded from party invite lists because 'it wouldn't suit me'. (Like PKD said: In 1945 Germany was defeated but the Nazi's won)

This all happened 2014-2015. In the Summer of 2018 I heard about saidit and joined after a day or two clicking around and thinking up a sick handle. I guess about a week, or max a month, later I discovered Mastodon so since then I'm back into (real) social-media without too much personal details.

Keep putting the company first, just one more time... by magnora7 in LateStageCapitalism

I part time (well really really part time, 1-2 a month) with a small company and I was called in one day when they were having their annual 'counting and comparing products' which is four huge (all take about 5-10 minutes each to load in excel, mental!) excel sheets that need to be compared. The best thing was they did manual JOIN ON operations and none of the list had the same identifier, so you needed all four searched and well, a mess. It usually took 2 people about 3 full work weeks to comb through.

I saw that, asked for the files, put them on my USB and at home I and I spend about 30 minutes conjuring up a .jar that did it all (I used a reduced data set for testing because in the end it took well over 40 minutes to run it all).

The next day i dropped by for a surprise visit and since then I get a lot of vacation money (vacation money is like 50-100% of your monthly earnings paid out once a year in the summer or winter) but I barely work there, still my vacation pay out is four digits clean (monthly earning 2-3 digits :p). Also with Christmas I get beer send to me with a gift card. And I get called for advise (barely 30min conversations) and the next paycheck features an extra work day.

[I did revise the 'script' once when I got my first vacation money so the code-gods could be proud again, the first incarnation was a 30-minutes sloppy job]

So yeah, with small companies that girl wouldn't take the ball away. {And yes I know, I'm still 99% cheaper than hiring a consultant}

Great! can't agree more! Stereo types (as I showed/explained above/other comment) are truly a Nazi era type thinking. I mean, if I adhered to them I wouldn't be here on this site, the makers of this site would have been cast away as posioned up 600lbs or more consumers trying to make a buck. [If they are, well played... :p JK /u/magnora7 sounds too skinny and /u/d3rr too rational (zen-like even with his remarks, too human... but yeah Zen) totally not not like American 'Tourists' I've encountered.]

Anyway yeah I was stereotyping again, I don't hold my stereo typees against you... it's just a 'tag' like 'ping' that goes off soon to be discredited... Never did I spot a stereo type american here and even if you are, I will gladly help in my internet comment capacity...

Ahhh did it again! Well, first of all, make love to yourself, if you ever need MY opinion about You based on stereotypes I can tell you: You might have a problem anyway :D

Really??? Then why is it posted in the opinion section of the news. Seems to undermine her factual assertions.

What is that responding to in my reply?

Also, politicians react to this tripe.

They react to everything as long as it can get votes.

Also, she looks just like me. I found a photo of you.

Great, comparing me to a pedo. To be clear, it was you who started about the appearance of that woman, I tried to make light of your strawman...
