You could ask the police the same question since they're actually hired to protect people...

BLM is specifically about police violence, you know that right?

So asking BLM why they weren't present when something happened that had nothing to do with police... is a complete nonsense question?

I have a lot of trouble understanding why so many think this is such a clever "gotcha" retort?

I'm not a huge BLM fan, but accusing them of not doing something that isn't their related to their actual purpose isn't an intelligent counter-argument, imo

It's like if someone died in a swimming pool, and you're like "Where's the coast guard, I thought they protected everyone in the water!"

Reddit nukes the /r/redditAlternatives list right as the mass exodus starts, shadowbans all posts and comments that mention certain alternatives in the moment people are looking for alternatives by magnora7 in MeanwhileOnReddit

You literally cannot mention TheDonald.win without your post being completely shadowbanned, and this seems to apply for many other alternatives too. And this occurred on an already-existing post, not a new post. They searched old posts to nuke them. The whole list of alternatives that was stickied at the top of /r/redditAlternatives was deleted and d3rr had to re-write it like this to get past their new keyword filter.

This is insane! What website forbids even the mention of their competition? They've gone full authoritarian

ShareBlue and other similar DNC-based social media promotion groups run reddit now, and the recent spate of bans just proves it. And I'm sure thedonald.win is similarly run by Cambridge Analytica, which is why it had such meteoric success and is now banned from mention on reddit by automated insta-shadow-deletion.

We're not seeing two real cultures fight, we're seeing two media PR organizations fight a cultural war, and the common man is just fodder getting ground up in the machine. Saidit, ideally, is here to help counterbalance these unnaturally-manufactured online cultures.

I learned it by making a website that got popular enough to be attacked constantly, and I was basically forced to learn it, haha. But I do enjoy it, it's a lot like the cool computer stories I used to read about as a teenager, where you can see all this connecting activity happening to the server and you have to come up with tricks and tools to prevent each type of weakness in the system as the problems arise in real-time.

If you want to learn the basics, I suggest reading about cloudflare, and all the hundreds of settings that can be set within that commonly-used firewall program. If you understand all the options within cloudflare, you're very well on your way to having a good understanding of cybersecurity. Cloudflare sits in front of the server, and if we get a billion requests it can deal with that and only let the appropriate traffic through. The hard part is coming up with good rules for what is considered "appropriate traffic", which is often unique to every site

You saidit. And also the US presidential election cycles, you can practically see the propaganda swell up in the months prior. And then it suddenly all stops right after the election is over. Shareblue and Cambridge Analytica probably control a good portion of the American social media internet between the two of them, at this point. Internet cultural astroturfing is definitely a "thing" now, and every organization is doing it because it's cheap and very effective. And it's effective, because many people are still under the mistaken impression that social media votes and comments 100% correlate to public opinion. When in reality they can be bought and sold just like giant billboards. Which is basically what reddit has become. A giant billboard.

Tell each side the other side hates them, via each of their biased media.

The best part about it, is that if hypothetically saidit and the admins were to all disappear one day, someone could simply take the saidit open-source code from github, and slap in the saidit database stored on notabug, and then saidit would come back to life.

So hopefully we've given others the tools to be able to re-create this ecosystem, should it ever disappear. And same with notabug, which now has the same functionality.

Not to be too grand about it, but I'm trying to think about saidit existing as a community platform 100 years from now, and stuff like this is how such a long-term roadmap might be feasible. This level of redundancy, and the ability to pass along information and software between websites in a publicly-viewable way, potentially opens quite a few doors for both saidit and notabug in the long-term.

And helps keep information alive outside of just one website, so it can last on the internet for longer than just that website's lifespan. This could make information more available to future generations.

It's exciting!

Not even just communist, but authoritarian technocrats.

There's all shades of authoritarians pushing their censorship. If you want to see right-wing authoritarian censorship, go to thedonald.win and post something like "Zionists control this website" or a factual negative thing about Trump, and watch it disappear.

The left-backed censorship is just more obvious because they have control of more major websites, like reddit. But sites like thedonald.win and voat show that the right is doing the same thing if given the chance.

So I think it's really an authoritarian vs anti-authoritarian thing, more than a right vs left thing.

You can only see it is shadowbanned when you log out and view the thread, you will find your comment is gone if you view the main thread.

He broke site rules by constantly arguing in bad faith, accusing others of promoting their websites while simultaneously promoting his book and blog at every opportunity. He's banned because he drags down the quality of discussion on this website noticeably which is against site rules. He was also calling anyone who disagreed with him about anything a "shill". Furthermore he started regularly attacking me when I called him out this. Sorry we had to ban him, but site rules are site rules.

At it's peak it was ranked 4,200 on alexa rankings: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg

It was around just before reddit, so it was valuable and a lot of people used it. But reddit's format was obviously superior in the long run. Digg had like 2 really good years, but cratered so quickly because the users revolted all at once and there was no subreddit system so everyone saw it all, and everyone left all at once.
