I went to Pompeii once, they have penises embedded in the cobblestone street to point you to the nearest whore house. Yes Las Vegas already existed 2000 years ago.

It's amazing how similar Ancient Rome was to modern society; they had a republic, they graffiti similar to modern-day "shitposts", and they even had fast food! At this rate, soon I will hear of a Roman precurser to email (probably some kind of mail service). Many modern societies seem to basically be Rome, but with cars, computers, internet, mass production, and a massive population size, due to less death for various reasons. I wonder how much has changed since Rome and how much has stayed the same. They even had complicated engineering there and sewage too!

Edit: It looks like Pompeii was buried before Christianity got large. I think that may be a big component of the familiarity!

Archaeologists are some of the dumbest people with their conclusions.

— the 2,000-year-old relics were once thriving businesses that sold bread with salty fish, lentils, baked cheese, and spicy wine.

How is that a stupid conclusion? Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated.

I disliked the "fast food" and "lower class" mixed with what we know at the time to be high quality food, and wine. It also looks like they stumbled upon food cellars and not thriving businesses at all. So I enjoyed the discovery but think the conclusion is mistaken.

Ah, okay. Fair enough. I'm not totally familiar with this site, but based on the structure of the counters in the photos, it does seem to imply some sort of counter structure for a business. I'm holding out for the additional analysis and further excavation/restoration before making any judgments. Since these are just the news articles, its difficult to get a real sense of what the archeologists were really finding, not just what the media interpreted as their findings

"Badger spleens... Otter noses... Wolf nipple chips...".

No one caught "The Life of Brian" reference to the snacks vendor ,huh?
