So, looking for this Ken Nordine track I stumbled back upon the huge Ninja Tune library on YouTube. I'd been over it much before, specifically looking for this specific video to no avail. Today I surprised the fuck out of myself by FINALLY FINDING IT! I'd been looking for this one for decades having forgotten the artist and track name. It's a good but not great track with a funderful and unforgettable video. I'm very thrilled to present...
Wagon Christ - 'Receiver' (3:26)
And since we're here going through Ninja Tune, let's make it an ANIMATION FESTIVAL!!! and check out these animated music videos too...
Great opening! Decent track + fun video...
(FYI. Coldcut is 2 DJs, and they started the Ninja Tune label. They often have activist themes. For example, their 'Timber' EP with Hexstatic is about clear cut logging, or their 'Aid Dealer' and 'This Island Earth'. If you make activist videos you may want to "borrow" from their library to mashup.)
A curious sci-fi setting with nice chill breaks...
Wagon Christ - 'Shadows' (3:46)
Jazzy goth turntablism...
(FYI. Kid Koala illustrates for his own album covers and the cartoons inside, and I suspect this video and 'Fender Bender'. He's a master of the turntables as this live mashup of 'Moon River' illustrates.)
Ace chill beats + an incredibly profound vintage video mashup...
Bonobo - 'Cirrus' (3:22)
(Kinda like the Flying Lotus 'Putty Boy Strut', and the Eskmo 'We Got More' videos, but different.)
Very trippy + good tune + environmental message...
Very trippy + meh tune...
Trippy + gothish + breakbeats...
Meh video + great catchy electoswing breakbeats...
I'm guessing I missed a lot of good ones. Most notably absent is Amon Tobin - a whole other story. Did I forget any stand-outs? Do you have a favourite Ninja Tune track or artist - or favourite animated music video? I'd love to hear about it.
