Be the content you want to see online. ;)
But seriously, I'd suggest going to the Edit Subs tab
https://saidit.net/subs/mine/
and going down the entire list, adding anything you have a remote interest in.
I'll be perfectly honest, most of them are barren wastelands at this time, but at least this way if anything gets posted that you'll have some interest in seeing, you'll see it.
Between now and November we're going to see a lot more people showing up here. Many of them are going to be people like you and me; Fed up with the two party system and sick of having their drivel shoved down our throats.

Like d3rr often says, be the posts you want to see! I encourage more science-based and tech-based posts were we can learn something interesting or cool without people getting all riled up

Maybe I should just cross-post everything interesting and comment here.

I would welcome this kind of x-posting.

Maybe a "nopolitics" sub would be nice to have here, it could x-post all the interesting non-politics posts for a little while, until they get to be a big enough volume it's no longer practical.

What kind of other topics would you like to engage with more here?

Actually /u/magnora7 or /u/d3rr Is it possible to make multi-subs here the way you can on reddit? We could make a "nopolitics" multi that way

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Yes it's possible. You can hand-make them by doing URLs like this: www.saidit.net/s/news+politics+worldnews

And there's also a multi-sub function to save those multis.. here is one example: https://saidit.net/user/JasonCarswell/m/saidit_games

[–]yellow_algebra_31 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

that's awesome! how do I access the multi-sub function to save a multi?

[–]yellow_algebra_31 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Woah I had no idea about all the info in there. Thank you! Didn't realize some multisubs were already made and published like the ones listed at the bottom of that page.

I made a little test multi and it seems to work.

?v=6d363180-8783-11e9-81b4-f23c91cf62d3

what is this part of the URL for?

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Oh I guess it was linking to a past revision of that page. The normal link: https://www.saidit.net/wiki/multisubs works fine

[–]yellow_algebra_31 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

ah, yeah, I get another URL like that when looking at past revisions. Thanks, it was strange and I didn't know what that was doing there in the url.

People find the political stuff more important so that is what they upvote. But it would be great to have a button, like the white/black one, that will flip off the political posts. Then everyone can flag posts as political so the button knows what is what.

[–]magnora7 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That's a good idea, I'll have to think about that one. Would it be if just one person ever flags it as political, then it's official? Or would it require a certain number or percentage before it's officially flagged as "political"? Like only the 80% most-marked things for the day are officially flagged?

Also this is kind of what we made the 'fun' tab for. It sorts by fun votes instead of insightful votes: https://saidit.net/fun/

But it still has political content. But people have varying definitions of what qualifies as "political" you know what I mean? So I'm just thinking about the algorithm of how that would work exactly

[–]Papitas 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

How about letting us users decide that? For example, some setting like "Consider political content after <n> marks". That way, some people could consider a post "political" after, say... 5 people flagged it as such, while people who are really fed up with political bullshit (like me) could filter posts marked after the first person did it.

It's just a rough idea, of course.

[–]Canbot 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was thinking just one flag should be enough, but anyone can "unflag" and then it goes by popular vote. This way you don't need a lot of participation, but if someone tries to abuse it the community can come together and fix it.

As much as I don't like the language the left has invented I have to admit that it seems to be more fitting to call it a safe space button and the flags as trigger warnings.

But at the same time I'd be worried that those people who do want to abuse it would claim that not enough material is flagged so the bar has to be set lower and lower. Always insisting that they are genuinely triggered. It does often seem that the language is specifically tailored to make everything sound subjective so no consensus can ever be reached, allowing the loudest to "win" any argument.

But of course the first step is just to put something forward and just see what happens and then make improvements.

The struggle is real. Politics have infested every corner of the entertainment industry (sports, vidya, even freakin board games) - even innocuous (should be apolitical) hobbies like knitting. It's inescapable, and I absolutely agree - it's tiresome as fuck.

What's left that hasn't been politicized? At this point I feel like we'll need to change the paradigm before we can resurrect our hobbies.

Ugh, the two programming ones are covered in advertising spam, very little actual content.

[–]zyxzevn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah. It is currently in a sad state.
Hackernews is currently my alternative for that news.

[–]magnora7 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe I should just cross-post everything interesting and comment here

That's a great plan btw. If everyone posted to saidit the 3 most interesting articles they'd read on the internet that day, we'd all benefit greatly.

[–]Chipit 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

YOU post content.

Don't complain about others when they do it. It takes more effort, waah. Get on it.

[–]happysmash27[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Uh, yes. That was what my point was in the last paragraph.

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So it's just going to be complaints without action? Other people need to change? Jeez.

Until Reddit's shit hits the fan that Reddit's userbase will feel, most of the people here will be from political communities. I'm someone who didn't like Reddit's downvote (censor) system, and never bothered with Reddit in the first place.

That being said, I do have a non-political sub, though a very niche gaming genre, being ArenaFPS.

[–]solder0 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I've already created enough subs here I think. Sad that there aren't any arduino or even electronics subs here.

[–]Wrang1er 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Somebody should create a sports sub

[–]whistlepig 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

thanks for volunteering ;]

[–]PurpleAmathea 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, s/sports exists

[–]blowininthewind 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

for starters there is removereddit and ceddit or you can build your own reddit crawler with api, but i doubt any layperson will get much outta it (probably need ip pool, heavy nerdy s***)

[–]deAccount 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Remove s/politics from your subscriptions, in the top left corner click subscribed. This should filter out most political posts. I don't know what type of content you're looking for, but part of saidit's problem is its small audience, so it's mostly used by those censored on reddit.

Me personally, I'm a pianist, there's no s/piano

[–]PurpleAmathea 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's not sufficient to filter s/politics because people post political stuff in a lot of the other subs as well. I really like the idea of being able to flag things as political, and being able to set a user preference for not seeing posts flagged above x amounts as political. Appreciate that u/magnora7 seems to be considering it.

Could you post piano content in s/music for now?
