Ruqqus is nice, when it's working. Haven't tried notabug.io yet, but it's supposedly pretty good too.

I personally also like www.notabug.io as it has very cool peer-to-peer software running it and a pretty good (but sometimes small) community.

If you're a tech person you can try out news.ycombinator.com, it's quite nice and full of intelligent discussion, but mainly focuses on programming and tech stuff, with the occasional other bit of news.

ruqqus.com seems pretty cool, but they have some server issues right now.

Agree with these, also minds.com though it's more of a facebook style interface, gab.com if you get on the right groups and mute some of the overt racists, and tildes.net for more casual conversation as they're more restricted on speech.

thanks for the response. i've heard of ycombinator and ruqqus, but haven't tried notabug. i'll check it out.

I like notabug.io and I keep meaning to check out the crypto-based ones like hive.

freespeechextremist.com is twitter-like on the fediverse. I think the fediverse is really neat in general, there are lots of different servers with different rules.

there's /s/saiditalternatives if you haven't seen it.
