Terror operations are intended to inspire general terror, or target an individual and appear indiscriminate.

Many mass shootings are police drills, are staged bullshit.

I know the FBI constantly set up mentally impaired people with guns and bombs and there are reports of FBI agents leaving the scene just before a shooting.

I think it's simple, they lack empathy. I don't want to end another person's life because I understand the consequences are not primarily to myself. Even ending one life has a ripple/butterfly effect. To do that en masse and indiscriminately... It's hard to contemplate for me. For some people they don't think about it at all.

But that is a particular problem as anyone can lack empathy. And it isn't something you can fix. It's like being color blind, just one of those things.

You can try reading Elliot Rodgers or Brenton Tarrant's manifesto for start. Shooter manifestos are sometimes autobiographical and detail what they did and why. Their observations of the world aren't necessarily false, but the combination of their social connections or lack of makes certain issues comprise a larger part of their perspective than average.

Example: It is true that Europeans are generally taller than Asians. If Elliot Rodgers was born full-white instead of half-Asian he may have been taller and more attractive to women (the blond, blue-eyed girls he was attracted to). But puberty and early age exposure to pornography created an obsession with sex that was made worse with an inferiority complex.

    Elliot Rodger's manifesto isn't great literature, but it is a masterpiece compared to the crap posted on the internet these days.                     As I understand the progression of their thought, it starts with blaming high-profile individuals, but then they are exposed to the truth that often these high profile individuals are popular. When they see popular people getting away with evil, they move to the conclusion that all people are inherently evil, and the only question remaining is "how many can I take with me when I go?" The human mind loves to fill in information it doesn't have, so when faced with the impossibility of knowing what any given person is thinking, the mind interpolates based on its model of "because all people are like this, this person is like this." This flat out neglects all variation in the world around us and places a single overarching model on top. Massive oversimplification meets a violent nature; we see the results.

                    I yield the floor. I'm not sure where I absorbed the view that I put above. Having read the comments on this thread, you guys seem to have read the motivations of these shooters much more than I have. This thread has taught me some things, and I'll keep my mouth shut on this topic in the future.

                    Shooters are extremely spoiled, weak, and bored people. They compensate for their weakness with their cruelty.

                    People say most shooters were victims of bullying. The opposite is true. They were by far not bullied enough. Bullying is the only way to deal with spoiled weak people, to prepare them for the real world.

                    I dont get it either. There has to be anger involved but we rarely get to hear who or what they are angry at or why. There was a Chinese student who shot up a school about ten years ago. He left some kind of a message or video on social media and the authorities shut it down before anyone got to see what he had to say.
