Email group lists?
Obviously a social network forum is a better place to organize in many respects, but many people have little or no interest in learning new GUIs, protocols, or etiquettes. Older people are more political and generally less tech-savvy, so, after hard-copy lists of phone numbers, this is the base-level starting point into the virtual realm, as many of them don't even use the hot mess that is Facebook.
To the point, much like over 20 years ago, many of my local communities are now going to re-embrace email lists. (Actually we already have several, but all are a mess, some are politically privileged, and other nonsense - thus we need re-organizing. Along with documented guidelines.)
IIRC, back in the day Topica, Yahoo, Google, and others were decent. We had several interrelated lists for each group (announcements, topical news, topical discussion, planning, general news, social, etc.) that were well moderated and people behaved or else. Back then, no one posted about their summer vacation in announcements - I wish it were so today.
The landscape has changed since then, so now we're wondering about confidentiality, privacy, and security for our resistance groups - and which are the best options, services, and platforms?
We're looking for recommendations and insights for optimal modern group email lists.
Q: Who is "we"?
A: The many local Windsor, Ontario, Canada resistance groups I participate in, as well as tangential other groups I have yet to learn about or may never know of - along with more in the area, province, nation, and the world. Plus, even you and your region may benefit from the information, alternatives, and solutions that might be discussed under this post.
Perhaps you might even have a FLOSS email list platform recommendation for our /s/Cassy team to host.
Also:
Feel free to contact me with your rates if you have website admin skills and want some minor basic gigs setting up and co-administrating decentralized platforms.
Active: MediaWiki (Projex.Wiki, WikiSpooks, InfoGalactic.com)
Coming eventually: Movim (MapleFringe.com), YaCy, web store (MapleFringe.Shop), Lemmy (TruthSeeker.Club, TruthSeeker.Party), PeerTube (Volun.Tube), a FLOSS VPN, NextCloud (MapleFringe.Cloud), image gallery, OAuth, Mastodon, Diaspora, IPFS, TOR, ZeroNet, etc, etc, etc.
These are just the start, as the goal is to have several of these co-hosted/mirrored in different places around this city and beyond. Everyone is encouraged to help decentralize in whatever way they may.
Thanks for your feedback.
