currency transfer issues

That's exactly what Stellar Lumens (XLM) were meant to do, moving money internationally with low cost. Although any crypto would work for this, you have to be mindful of gas fees, the cost to move your crypto.

What kind of 'lifestyle' do you plan to live? Apartment life would make it difficult to have much of a garden. If you have garden space, invest in heirloom seeds you can regrow every year. Do you have cooking equipment? I've seen some of the basic stuff like the baking pans I use for beef jerky double in price recently.

Look for stuff you're actually going to be using and buy it before it's twice as expensive and your money shrinks to nothing.

If you don't mind other people's cooties, save a lot by buying your gym equipment on craigslist.

If you're in a house, woodworking and/or metalworking equipment will make you more self-reliant.

Self-defense or offense tools would be a good investment.

If you don't obsess over your hairstyle, a trimmer set costs about the same as one haircut.

The specifics of what to buy really depends on how much money you have, and how you plan to live.

Get an electric pressure cooker, like an instant pot, so you can save money and buy dried beans rather than canned.

They are also good for general cooking.

And get a water filter.

Yeah, I guess, although in a real SHTF scenario the power would go out. Perhaps a crock pot as well. Incredibly the tap water where I am is drinkable, but maybe some kind of filter would be an idea just in case.

Or just buy an old school pressure cooker you use on the hob. It's just a bit trickier to get going. They should save fuel because they cook quicker.

Crockpots have the same problem re electricity.

The filter you need now. Some of the guys here can fill you in on glyphosate, fluoride and all the other nasties (and if you get one in the shower you'll have lovely skin and hair).

I'll try to get a pressure cooker I can theoretically use with a fire. We are apparently on underground water, so it doesn't have that shit in it.
