Taboos are interesting. They're the human social version of fences. They box in our behavior and limit our thinking.
It seems a lot of progress in history has been overcoming pre-existing taboos. It also seems a lot of progress has been made though by having the right taboos. It's a balance, but I tend more on the side of talking out the taboos and I think there's a lack of that in American society now as compared to 20-30 years ago.
