When nations and/or communities have strong ethical values and a sense of ethics It's very hard to change or subvert them. While people can have a sense of ethics even in more liberal societies, I still see this as a source of corruption. We only need to look at the most ideal societies like the US, they may be excellent in certain ways, but at the top levels is incredibly corrupt too.
This is all made worse by Post-Modernism and how it has corrupted nearly all institutions. Natural, healthy communities are just better.
