A Response to a YouTube Commenter
A commenter on youtube accused me of lying about RFK's questioning the Covid vaccine.
Here was my response:
Counters to your argument.
1) At the outset, you are confusing a defense of RFK's position with my own. I have no personal opinion on the efficacy or safety of vaccines. I do have an opinion on the process by which we should decide such matters, and who, most importantly, should decide. But to get to the more pertinent point, I will make the extended RFK argument below as if I was his counsel at a trial:
2) You acknowledge that the government's own data shows Americans reporting more than 1,000 deaths from the vaccine. You do not dispute this is the government's own data; you do not dispute this is what people report; you do not dispute that such deaths occurred; you do not dispute those deaths occurred after the person received the vaccine; and you do not dispute that the people making the report attribute the deaths to the vaccine. Using the same standard the government uses for counting Covid deaths means there have been 1000+ "vaccine deaths." In a trial, this would be properly attributed to the "government's own evidence" and the "government's own data."
3) You dispute causation. Of note, you do so citing a source using a contradictory standard of causation. In the case of Covid, haven't we been taught that Covid caused the death even if the only evidence of it is the person who died had covid in their system? Why not use the same standard for deaths with an even tighter temporal link for those with the vaccine in their system? Either the Covid-death stats are true (in which case the vaccine death stats are also true), or both are wrong. What cannot be said, though, is that we can count Covid deaths with one measure of causation, but refuse to apply the same measure of causation to vaccine deaths. No method of medicine justifies that.
4) Your method of assessing and asserting "truth" that renders any other opinion "false" or "fake news" is itself contrary to the Constitutional system we created to assess truth in individual cases of controversy. In America, after centuries of trial-and-error around the world, we have determined a particular method as most likely to determine truth. Our civil justice system requires 1) an adversarial process with trained advocates on both sides; 2) a trial by jury of the people; 3) publicly held, as supervised by a jurist at trial and on appeal, governed by rules of law and rules of evidence intended to only allow trustworthy and reliable evidence, full discovery of pertinent facts, expert evidence of those competent in the field, to be judged by the people, directly by jury and publicly in observation of the case. Has any adversarial process occurred here? No. Has any jury trial happened? No. Has any discovery occurred? No. Has the public been able to witness the fact-resolution process? No. Why not? Because our politicians removed the issue of vaccines from this system of truth-determination and justice-allocation. If the vaccines are so magically safe, why did the companies producing them demand immunity from liability and removal from our civil justice truth-finding system as a precondition to giving it to people?
5) Of note, by your logic, no one can ever contest the government's opinion on a matter, and whatever the government says is "the truth." Why even have criminal trials then, right? After all, the government has already decided the person is guilty, and that decides the truth, right? That isn't the system of justice our Constitutional calls for, and for good cause. The argument we should defer to the White Lab Coats (even when they are applying contradictory standards of causation and making improbable claims, like determining no effect of vaccines on self-reported injuries and deaths in record-setting time, and even when those same officials have a conflict of interest arising from their support of the vaccine in the first place) is not the system of truth-finding and justice-allocation our founding fathers chose, and nor should we. In the end, it is another version of who decides? Ask the victims of medical experimentation what happens when we give all that power to the state.
