The Trump subreddit had its original moderators removed and was controlled by the admins, it wasn't very threatening.

I worry that all this censorship will just make people vote for Trump instead. Everyone is tired of being censored.

That's exactly the stupid Democrats' problem. With all the fuck ups this year, all the Dems have to do is sit back and let Trump self-destruct. Biden can run like Weekend and Bernie's and still come out ahead. But no, they have to do all this shit because they can't help showing they're holier than thou. So they are incensing Trump's base when they might have otherwise sit out the vote. Plus, the more people feel silenced, the more they want to speak. And if they can't speak anywhere, they'll make sure to speak at the voting booth. This was what happened in 2016 and they didn't learn at all. Keep doing this shit and they're going to hand the White House right back to that asshole.

Maybe it's not Democrats behind this ban...

[–][deleted] 16 insightful - 2 fun16 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Agreed. I think thats a big reason why he won the first time. The left hasnt learned that, they got worse since 2016.

I unfortunately agree with you. I think people are going to get sick of this type of thing happening.

I still think it's down to advertising dollars. I think there was a report run crossing most reported subs, their users/members, and least ad engagement. We're not generating revenue. Dump!

I agree that the recent bans are predominantly an attempt to sway public opinion in the states in favour of the Democrats for the upcoming election. I suspect this could backfire on them though, as people generally do not like feeling censored or bullied and shamed into voting a certain way. Also, all this focus on defunding the police is likely freaking many people out and pushing them toward the Republican side more.

Edit: I wanted to add that I'm also a typically more left-leaning Canadian woman who has decided to vote Conservative next election. Despite not sharing many values with them, the erasure of women and biological reality as fact is an important enough issue that I'm willing to vote for them on that alone. Also, the medicalization and transing of children is deeply wrong to me.

Silencing of GC voices kind of reminds me of the Bernie Blackout. Media uses psychological manipulation for political ends. Sadly, I used to read reddit to bypass the major biased news sources.

Maybe, but the discussions about politics there usually ended with "We can't vote for Trump OR a Dem right now, what third party can we go to/start?" Like, I want to support the Greens myself, but they are very firm about trans "rights", so I really am politically homeless right now. We live in Hellworld right now and it sucks.

If I was in the US I would be looking at #Unity2020. The aim is primarily to disrupt the two party system, and oppose the authoritarian right and Woke/authoritarian left. Concept has been put forward by Bret Weinstein, who is pretty firmly gender critical. The ticket may not be GC, but should at least not be TRA captured.

Aim is to put up a left/right joint ticket, and gather the votes of Traditional Liberals, Passive Liberals, Politically Disengaged and Moderates as a block (67%), who outnumber Progressive Activists, Traditional Conservatives and Devoted Conservatives (32%).

Flip the voting axis from left/right to liberal/authoritarian, and defeat the authoritarians. Draw voters from both Republicans and Democrats equally to avoid an unbalanced spoiler, and withdraw if victory doesn't appear within reach.

Go find Bret Weinstein's Twitter and you find links to documents and interviews.

(As an aside, in the UK the SDP (Social Democratic Party) has just put out a policy document firmly balancing womens' rights with trans - another party looking for anti-TRA votes).

Thanks, I'll look into it.

This is really interesting, and I would love to see more unity in my country the US. Thank you for posting this!

Yeah, I feel the same. But not voting could also create a "win" for Trump. Whether that means I should support the Biden the Groper instead - I don't know. But I can see the OP's point in this.

Unless you all are in a swing state, maybe the conscientious thing to do is to sit this one out. At the end of the day, the outcome will only depend on a few swing states anyway. I'm not in a swing state, so I'm not voting. Trump is a disaster but damn the Woke left. The way they are behaving now, they aren't getting my affirmation vote.

If i was in the US i would write-in Bernie knowing that he won't get enough.

[–]FuriousPenguin 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Seems to be the case. But doesn't explain why the banned the non GC subs as well. Those were so useful to women like me from conservative countries. But then won't they get in trouble for election tampering or something like that?

[–]Immortallogic 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Hey I'm Canadian as well, but I don't agree with your statement regarding being convinced to vote conservative. If the cons had been in power through this crisis I think it would have been much worse.

With regards to abortions - what's the point of voting con which would just mean we don't have access to it at all? That doesnt make any sense... With the Dem's (better yet let's get the NDP's in) at least women would still have more rights, then the fight to keep the sex vs gender argument open will continue. But voting con is just bad new all around, for women, racial minorities, etc. Look at how it's working out for America...

[–]jelliknight 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree with OP. One side is trying to take away specific women's rights. The other side is trying to take away ALL legal concept of women as a category and in doing so remove dozens of women's rights.

We can work around abortion bans (there's herbs and menstrual extraction which are both very safe), we can't work around mixed sex prisons, no right to be searched be a female officer, losing women's sports, etc etc.

I think this is pushed by trans lobbyists-- be it via advertising or outright trans political/influence consolidation, of course with the eager compliance of TIMs and TRAs inside reddit. There is no way to explain banning several newly created GC sub without even a single post in and even those not about the US (like GCScanidnavia) as being points towards Trump. If a US political angle MUST be gleaned, it would be to give the impression of liberals as having a monolithic stance on trans/idpol. You cannot say it is a solid liberal/dem stance to push for trans interests while mounting evidence to the contrary exists-- hence, all social media and content hosts are shutting down those dissenting voices from within, to silence and prevent its growth.

That said, it speaks a lot about reddit to have tons of rape and raprey subs survive a supposed clean up.

[–]feministunderyrbed 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

No US party or politician supports GC ideas. The right is just as genderist as a lot of the left. And there are lots and lots of reasons besides feminism to get rid of Trump, starting with the fact that if we don’t we may have seen our last (fair-ish) presidential election ever.

So no, I don’t believe in an anti-Trump conspiracy by Reddit. They are porn-addled misogynists, that’s all.

[–]lefterfield 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It makes a lot of sense, and it does explain why certain subs were targetted. I know it wasn't about hate speech, I've seen plenty of reddit forums that were way worse than the meanest thing anyone there ever said about about a TiM. I don't know how I feel about it, though. Trump is awful, the democrats are awful, I just want to crawl into a hole somewhere and forget about politics.

[–]jelliknight 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's not going to work. I'm left-wing but I'd put money that Trump will win.

  • No one likes Biden
  • Postal voting isn't going to be allowed
  • The pandemic will be far worse by the election
  • The only people willing to risk their lives to vote will be the same ones who protested shut downs and masks.

I predict the lowest voter turn out in recent history, with Trump winning again in the electoral college. I also predict a large number of write-in votes for Bernie.

[–]LeyMio 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Trump has honestly screwed up so much this year. Democrats would have claimed the easiest win in 2020, if they did not lose patience and start to throw it. By using censorship as an election strategy, the leftists have revealed themselves to be an even bigger threat to the society. Remember that four years ago they were also the loudest accusers before the election, and that was exactly why they lost to the "silent majority".

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, I think there is a lot of stuff going on right now related to the US election. Trump won last time largely due to people being able to talk over social media.

[–]JoanofArc5 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think there was pressure from advertisers - similar to what's going with FB right now

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I think thats certainly part of it, I would agree with you. To me its too much of a coincidence that it happened just a few months before an election.

I was someone on the left too before the left adopted trans activism, so I'm the same, its got to the stage where I think keeping the status quo is less damaging for women than allowing the left get into power, rights are easily lost, but they are hard to gain back.

[–]Anavirable 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Are you in the US? Here no one is keeping the status quo. Donald “grab them by the pussy” Trump put a rapist on the Supreme Court and Pence has made progress in his crusade against abortion rights. Neither side supports women, but the Democratic Party at least plays it safe (see Obama’s presidency and Biden’s nomination). Democrats in power are less dangerous to us because their ideological purity cult causes fractures in the group that makes them less effective than the tribal Republican mindset.

IIRC TD was dead as in “no posts in a month+” dead as it’s members all defected.

I'm not voting conservative.
