Surveys can be very tricky to read because how a question is framed will affect the answer it elicits. The old saw about someone asking "have you stopped beating your wife" and then giving only the options of "yes" and "no" for the answer is one way of reminding us of that.

The YouGov surveys might also have vulnerability to bias the way they are done (permanent panel of people used for lots of different surveys, so maybe it has too many people in it with lots of time on their hands, and those people might have different opinions on lots of issues).

But never mind that. I spotted a few things which are of interest from the YouGov site summary of the survey:

"People tend to be fine with transgender people using facilities for their new gender, but not if they have not undergone gender reassignment surgery"

And

"By 41-46% to 26-30% people oppose those who have not physically transitioned being able to use their new gender’s changing rooms. Likewise, 39-41% oppose them being able to use their new gender’s toilets, compared to 31-32% who are in support."

Over 80% (or more?) of trans women retain their penises and most seem to only take estrogen and that is it. I don't think this is widely known.

The other result which is worth sharing is this:

"When it comes to sports, however, Britons are much less supportive of access for trans people. People tend to think that transgender people should not be able to participate in sporting events for their new gender, but noticeably more so when it comes to transgender women (55%) than transgender men (44%).

This is the case across society, with the various demographic groups being anywhere between nine and 20 percentage points less likely to support inclusivity for transgender women in sports than transgender men."

What I would like them to ask in the next survey is if people want to have the female sex completely erased so that "people" menstruate and so that the word "mother" is deemed to be transphobic when writing about midwifery and similar medical topics. Very very few people not following this field know what is being beta-tested on us right now.

Forgot to add that this year's survey shows a slight drop in support of self-identification and so on, compared with last year's survey.

So it looks like the "self-identifying" part was run as a different survey in Pink News, then added in to the survey results as published here . . . And other than that, a majority of respondents would require official medical gatekeeping for tans access to sex-specific spaces. Am I reading that right?

Was it? Whoa, that's a sneaky way to get skewed results. I wonder how they chose who to ask.

Yeah, it does look like most people agree with medical gatekeeping, and if you look at the bottom most of them agree with access to sex segregated spaces ONLY if people have had "gender affirmative" surgery, which is only a small percentage of trans people, but I wonder if they were told that? I'm betting no.

Also no one agrees with men in women's sports, even those people who say they 'believe' that TWAW.

There you go. Sneaky as all fuck in the way they collated and presented that data!

I think the question of of a man has had surgery or not is moot, since increasingly we're not allowed to question anyone who looks like they don't belong in our spaces.

Do these surveys happen to mention girl dicks and men in dresses with beards? I very very much doubt most people know about girl dicks and that self ID means men with beards can enter women's spaces
