Disturbing. If this is by a TiF, it suggests that she has a lot of trauma and self-loathing and sees wearing a binder as a form of self-harm(and thus a relief). Which... from everything I've seen, that's likely true for a lot of them.

It is for my TIF niece. And she's got other girls doing it now too. And her parents know the risks full well but can't see it for what it is.

I used to wear two of the smallest sports bras I could squeeze into layered on top of each other. My best girlfriend wore thick baggy hoodies every single day, year round.

It's heartbreaking how young women feel about their bodies and I'm sick to death of gender ideologies taking advantage of this painful stage in a young woman's development.

Seems like it's meant to be 'relatable'. You know, bonding over shared difficulties. Perhaps treating the pain as a badge of authenticity in the relevant social circles. Kinda reminds me of pro-ana content, actually.

Yes, pro ana communities were full of this sort of masochism. Anyone who wasn't anorexic would've been confused as to how the girls could be so conscious that Ana was cruel and killing them but also still participate in the community as though it was a positive thing instead of a death cult. Self-destructiveness in the name of fitting some sort of societal standard is basically what teenage girlhood is all about these days. Just pick a cult and prepare to mold yourself into whatever unreasonable standard it worships. And no matter what you do, you will always fall short.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me self harm, including food restriction, was a way to both justify and express my distress. I felt like I didn't have a real reason for the distress. Self harm made it real, made it embodied, so that I wasn't just... I don't know... overreacting. Making it up. I still don't understand all the mechanisms of self harm, but I think I know it when I see it. I feel sorrow and compassion for these young women. I wish they could see other paths forward.

Because that's exactly what this is. The girls that become anorexic are the girls wearing binders.

yeah for real. This seems like a comic one of us would draw.

This reminds me of that quote the pro-ana community was obsessed with back in the early 2000's. "Quod me nutrit, me destruit" - "what nourishes me, destroys me."

I peeped at the whole set of comics. Kind of depressing? It seems like this person has humor and talent. I hope they're happy.

Me too. I can't find it in me to lol at how ridiculous this comic is, because it just makes me sad and worried.

So much trans propaganda has cutsie cartoon imagery. I swear it’s to help groom children into accepting the “lifestyle”.

Girls with eating disorders are sometimes driven by the need to starve themselves to retard their physical development into adult women, thereby avoiding adult roles and responsibilities. I think both our theories are pretty solid.

There’s truth in that. The disease/transition also consumes all their mental energy, becomes the focus of their lives. Distracts them from their real problems.

Because we all know nothing is more manly than wearing a tight bra-like top that squishes your boobs flat. If something no man has ever done is what brings you closer to feeling like a man... maybe you're just delusional.

In fact I will argue that it’s probably the most womanly thing you can do, suffer for the image you present to others. Women wear tight push up bras and high heels to portray an image. Binding seems no different.
