I am sick to my stomach. My heart goes out to every woman in a California prison, and this is my promise to them: I will fight to overturn this law.

Gavin Newsom is a piece of shit, as is Scott Wiener, the state senator who put forward the bill, as is Toni Atkins, the president pro temp of the California state Senate. As is every state California state senator and assembly member who voted for this bill.

Anyone in California? Please call your assembly member and senator, because Scott Wiener and Toni Atkins - who ironically enough, think of themselves as the LGBT representatives - no doubt have more women-hating bills in the pipeline. So it would be good to tell CA legislators what pieces of misogynistic, rape-enabling shit they are while protesting more misogynistic gender lobby legislation in advance.

Anyone remember when George Dubya was running for re-election and Gavin Newsom, then mayor of San Francisco, decided to allow gay marriage in San Francisco - most probably to score points with liberals? Because Newsom has never had a moral compass - remember that Newsom was married to Kimberly Guilfoyle, ex-Fox News host and current squeeze of Don Jr.

The 24 hour cable was flooded with gay weddings in San Francisco, which would have been a cause for celebration, except back then some US voters weren't ready for it.

I always thought Newsom pulling what seemed to me, even before I knew much about him, to be a publicity stunt, helped throw the election to Bush II. Well, that and all the voter fraud the Republicans engaged in...

Already, I've seen a backlash on Twitter: that oily, right wing shit stirrer, Ian Miles Cheong, has tweeted out this news, and his followers, to give them credit, are aghast. Many people across the political spectrum are aghast.

So Newsom might have done it again: Newsom might have helped throw a presidential election to the Republican candidate. And screwed helpless women too. Heck of a job, Gavvie (showing my age).

There is a recall petition already circulating for Newsom. I will find it and post. Anyone who hates women cannot be allowed to stay in office. Time for Newsom to go.

It's a Sophie's choice, isn't it. On one hand you have people like Newsom who would uphold abortion (but not enough to make abortion pills available on UC/CSU campuses) but are 100 percent for putting intact males into women's prisons for these males' safety.

On the other, you have Trump shooing in an actual Serena Waterford in Amy Coney Barrett. You ever see the Handmaid's Tale with the Elliott Stabler guy who has this huge mostly but not all white family and everyone's like, that's so awesome? That's exactly what I thought of hers when she trotted them up there. Barrett belongs to a cult that until 2017 called the women they had over other women "handmaids."

Either way, women's rights are being eroded and quite a few are becoming handmaidens to satisfy the whims and privilege of males.

Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco who authored the bill, said he doesn’t expect that exception to be used very often.

“It’s just a false narrative about transgender people and about transgender women in particular that they’re somehow not really women and are just trying to scam their way into women’s bathrooms or facilities in order to do bad things,” Wiener said. “Overwhelmingly the people who are being victimized are trans people.”

Weiner, meet Jessica Yaniv. Or half of r/mtf. Or those dainty flowers swinging barbed wire bats at libraries while exhibiting shirts that say they "kill terfs."

i know that's too intersectional for your tiny head, the one over your shoulders here, so explain how more Yanivs wouldn't happen.

Scott Wiener is just so evil. But then so is every member of the California legislature that voted for this and Governor Scammin' Newsom too.

The women officers are going to have to search these TiMs and non-binaries, which must be a violation of their human rights?

Who cares what they say their gender is. The fundamental issue is whether they have a penis and balls, not how they identify.

I don't actually know whether female custodial staff is required to physically handle females. I do know that there are a lot of men in corrections and that they observe quite a bit as it is.

[–]BEB 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I'm assuming that staff has to do intimate searches of prisoners? At least that's what happens in the movies ;-)

The articles I've read on this law said that staff has to treat the TiM as the sex he identifies with, so that would mean female prison staff would have to touch his genitals, I'm pretty sure. Anyone know?

[–]WrongToy[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is what's supposed to happen according to Prison Rape Eradication Act of 2002, revised twice through 2012.

A person is supposed to present themselves to medical for a general checkup. If the genitals are observed, they may be noted, but noting the genitals themselves cannot be the primary purpose of the checkup.

Body cavity physical searches are infrequent. i'm not sure but wouldn't be surprised if a female guard's duties included looking up men's asses,

I would hope it would be different for the women, for very obvious reasons. There are only two prisons in california that are fully female; another is about 1/4 by floor. There used to be three, but one shut down and males were moved into it.

I thought of that Handmaid's Tale family as well.

I've wanted to see Newsom recalled for ages -- the petition got started and fizzled I guess. The homeless crisis has exploded in this state. SF was already a homeless disaster area when Newsom was mayor. California politics is so corrupt (not like others aren't, but this one is BAD!) Newsom has screamed late night used car salesman commercial to me all along. Kimberly Guilfoyle -- uggh! I think she's just like him: look at me, look at me, I'll say or do anything for points. I wonder if she's offered an opinion on this though?

I was trying to get help with EDD (waiting 4 months now) so I was contacting Assembly and Senate -- and I found Wiener on video the other day talking about the EDD disaster. His office can't get any help from EDD either he says. So people like me who can't pay the rent because Unemployment is a mismanaged disaster, we continue to suffer, but he CAN get a "let's lock men in with vulnerable women" bill passed. Classic.

[–]BEB 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Wow - sorry you've been waiting so long for EDD - I hope it comes through soon!

I had no idea how corrupt CA politics were until this gendxr shit came along. According to a California housing organization who hired an investigative journalist, Scott Wiener receives money from Gilead Sciences, the pharma company that makes the HIV prophylactic , Truvada.

Gilead Sciences is also the sponsor of the transgender march on Washington DC.

I just saw a chart some guy on Twitter made about Gavin Newsom's ties to the Pelosis and the Getty family; the Twitter used alleges that some mutual deal made them rich.

I think the Newsom recall petition will gain steam again. I'm going to sign it, and write Gavin Newsom a long email explaining why. Barbaric.

[–]WrongToy[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Ah yes, Truvada, the first antiviral that cleared viral loads so they "couldn't be transmissible during sex!" Ah yes, you can't imagine what happened in the porn industry when TIMs with the virus started saying, "Baby I'm clean you're just being transphobic!"

The HIV rate in San Francisco is 30 percent higher in TIMs than gay men! Who knows if they're taking their meds any more than any woman's supposed to know their dick is somehow magically inert at all times and that all inert dicks are magically unharmful? We're all supposed to take people's word for it who have more than their share of personality disorders and other psychiatric ailments?

Yep, otherwise we're just "denying their humanity."

This is the world in which Weiner lives.

Did you see the report on TiMs in California prisons that I posted? TiMs in CA prisons have a very high rate of HIV - so the incarcerated women they might rape don't just have to worry about pregnancy, but a lifelong, incurable and very expensive to treat disease too.

[–]MarkTwainiac 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's not just in CA either. In the US, the HIV rate amongst TIMs is sky high.

In the USA in 2018, TIMs age 20-29 accounted for more than one-quarter of all new HIV diagnoses amongst males of that age group in the USA. Seems a bit high for a group that's less than one percent of the population, no? (The CDC estimates that 1 million people of both sexes in the US today identify as trans.)

In 2018, the largest percentage (27%) of diagnoses of HIV infection was for transgender MTF adults and adolescents aged 25–29 years, followed by the percentage (25%) for transgender MTF adults and adolescents aged 20– 24 years.

https://www.hiv.gov/hiv-basics/overview/data-and-trends/statistics

A 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis found that an estimated 14% of transgender women (TIMs) have HIV. By race/ethnicity, an estimated 44% of black/African American transgender women, 26% of Hispanic/Latina transgender women, and 7% of white transgender women have HIV.

Among the 3 million HIV testing events reported to CDC in 2017, the percentage of transgender people who received a new HIV diagnosis was 3 times the national average.

However, trans identified people who have penetrative sex with men are highly unlikely to get tested for HIV:

Nearly two thirds of transgender women and men surveyed by the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) in 2014 and 2015 from 28 jurisdictions reported never testing for HIV.

There are numerous prevention challenges that may impact the HIV health outcomes for some transgender people. These include:

Certain behaviors and socioeconomic factors can affect outcomes, such as having multiple sex partners, anal or vaginal sex without protection (like a condom or medicine to prevent or treat HIV), and sharing needles or syringes to inject hormones or drugs. Additional factors include commercial sex work, mental health issues, incarceration, homelessness, unemployment, and high levels of substance misuse compared to the general population.

Maybe this will become like all other women's spaces where it slowly becomes all men and actual women stop going there. That would be nice for once.

[–]WrongToy[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They'll need a space though for people who've done legit bad things that they can't let them out for...like the 42 murderers on Chowchilla death row. All the lifers there.

This is why California is lost to TRAs, anyone who supports this bill should also do time whenever a TIM rapes or assaults a woman, this along with the decriminalisation of same sex pedophilla proves that something is seriously wrong with California.

The sunshine state for sex offenders!

[–]BEB 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't think that California politicians can be punished in any way if a bill they vote for causes harm - does anyone know?

[–]worried19 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

This is dangerous for female prisoners. Isn't there some sort of prisoners' rights group that female inmates can appeal to?

Also, no shit you're not going to find trans men being put into male prisons. Thank God at least for small favors. The mainstream media isn't going to touch that one with a ten foot pole because anyone with a brain knows that you don't put a female-born person who has never had any hormone treatment and still has breasts and a vagina in with dangerous male prisoners. But if they wanted to go, they could. Isn't this a huge liability for prisons once those prisoners inevitably get raped or impregnated?

I absolutely am in support of trans women prisoners being given safe, protected spaces. General male population is not safe for them. They need their own wing, at the very least, of others in the same situation. But self ID in prisons is not the way to go. It's the absolute worst place to have self ID.

[–]WrongToy[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

They have them. San Quentin, Folsom, RJD, pretty sure Corcoran. The plum location though is Mule Creek State Prison in Ione. Probably half the population there is "gender-divergent" as it is.

if this was a safety issue they would have just made plans for DVI to stay open for another year and put them there or Ione. But note that's not enough for the "women" to be put with their own. Nope, only being put with actual women will do.

[–]BEB 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

So the TiMs could have been placed in a secure unit, but want to be in with actual women, so this is very much a deliberate attack on women's privacy, dignity and safety, and a lie on the part of Scott Wiener?

[–]WrongToy[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

From about 2002-2010, they'd routinely segregate prisoners into two broad groups: the general population--who used to be segregated by race both by their own assertion and assisted by the staff--and the "special needs population" who could not choose whom to room with. The SNY population included gays, trans and especially gang dropouts. In contrast, California's two female prisons have never had an sny yard.

Anyways, around 2012 they decided that because people sort of behaved in Sny, they should expand that model to GP. They were under court order anyway for the racial...so that spurred a movement to integrate everyone for any reason by unit as much as possible.

[–]BEB 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So right now TiMs are forced to be in the general male population?

[–]WrongToy[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It depends on facility. They'll generally house TIMs separately if they request. It should actually be the first-line option. Like I said, even now, there are trans dorms and even units already. In male prison.

So why push it? I mean, why did Michaele Norsworthy (the murderer who got srs out of SQ in 2015) push it? He was already at San Quentin, which despite its reputation is a model of prison rehab. Their media projects are advised by journo professors at Cal and Columbia, and they have been Pulitzer finalists. People from Google come out to train people to code. The Warriors have recruited from their namesake prison team. Its firefighters are trusted in not just the village (guards) but southern Marin in general. It has a dedicated and accredited college.

And one of the journos wrote about how, actually, TW are very accepted at San Quentin among this population of men who are all trying to do their program so that they can get good time and get released.

Most long-termers there are lifers with dates like this guy had. But no, that wasn't enough. He needed to be with actual women.

After a long-term battle--which "she her" Kamala fought for the state--it was determined that the state would have to pay for his bottom surgery, after which he'd get sent to Chowchilla, or Chino.

The tools of rape, or at least some crucial ones, were removed from the murderer's body at his request. Spendy, but a better line than saying any intact male can just identify right into Chowchilla, no srs, no hormones, no wig or whatever required...like it makes a difference anyway.

[–]WrongToy[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Having read a bunch about prisons, specifically CDCR, for about 20 years now here's my opinion of what's going on.

It's a lot harder to be a gay masc male than a trans in most of CDCR. The whole idea of sexuality is that one is somehow weak or indebted and needs protection, and those who protect want favors, not just sex, but trad "housewife" duties like washing their undies out and keeping the cell sparkling. This is because it makes it better, or less gay, for said hetero dominant males to have sex with them, and that always occurs with them doing the penetrating.

Once one gets caught up in this as the subservient, the word gets out and pretty soon prison survival becomes about the weaker doing sexual favors and conforming to the worst of female gender stereotypes. Of course, if they continue to be indebted this cycle will only continue.

Add to this the males, often older, who simply don't want to hypermasc any more. At a typical male prison, that behavior is required--everyone is required to know where the yard shanks are. Everyone's required to go to battle. That is not true in female prisons, where inmates tend to group up in a "street family" structure versus racial gangs.

So they have problems. But women are not the solution or escape to these problems just because other men have a problem with them.
